Kelly Inn & Suites Mitchell South Dakota

Customer service was good, and they allow dogs and cats at no extra cost. But the place was filthy, absolutely disgusting. I was itching for hours and it seemed like the rooms hadn't been dusted, vacuumed, or cleaned. The mold and humidity were overwhelming, and anyone with lung problems should avoid staying here. The rooms smelled moldy, there was mold on the ceiling tiles, and dust and grime were caked along the carpet edges. The upholstered furniture looked like it hadn't been steam cleaned since the hotel opened. I wouldn't sit on it. I also saw cleaning staff sitting on the furniture using their phones instead of cleaning. Flies were all over the breakfast food, so don't eat it. They should get a fly zapper. The front door windows looked like they hadn't been washed in months, and the room windows barely opened because the frames were so crooked. A nice woman at the front desk struggled but managed to open ours. There was laundry debris spilling out at the front of the hotel, which looked like a fire hazard to me. I don't know if the GM doesn't care, doesn't know the job, or if the owner doesn't care about cleanliness and management. I traveled from Washington state to Ohio, and this was by far the worst place we stayed. For even less money, Holiday Inn & Express Suites had a very clean room and great service. Kelly's just doesn't cut it.

This was an okay place for a night, especially with our 3 dogs and 5 little kids. They let all of us, including my wife and me, stay in one room, and there was no pet fee. A lot of hotels would make you get another room. The hotel was kind of dirty, with trash in the hallway and on the stairs. Our room smelled when we first went in, but the odor went away after a little while. The staff we did interact with were very nice. There was some damage in the room that we hadn't caused, and they offered to move us if we wanted. If you're just passing through with pets or young kids, it's not a bad place to spend the night.

Our third-floor suite was beautiful and didn't have any smell. The room was clean, the bed was comfortable, and the air conditioner worked really well. The hot tub was lovely, and breakfast was fine. The only issue was weak water pressure in the shower.

After nine hours on the road, this was just what we wanted: clean and comfortable, with an easy exit off the interstate. It's a good-looking, very dog-friendly hotel. You can enter from the interior hallway or go straight out to the parking lot, where your car is right outside the room.
