Rodeway Inn

We booked and prepaid for a room while traveling through Alabama, but on arrival were told it wasn’t available. The tiny replacement smelled of smoke, with two beds crammed into a space that seemed made for one. They touched each other and the exterior wall, with only about a foot to the side wall. We asked for a different room and got one of similar quality, except there were lots of small, slender roaches in the bathroom. Sitting on the bed, I saw several more crawling on the nightstand and head of the bed. My wife and I left immediately without telling management, because we felt those were probably two of the best rooms. We’re disappointed in Choices hotel group, which guarantees the lowest prices, when rooms were advertised on the Marquee for $3 less than our special membership price. We’ll try to get a refund for the unused room and ask Choices Hotel to remove this hotel from the group.

We ended up leaving and staying elsewhere. The floors were slimy and filthy, and the sheets in our non-smoking room had ashes and stains on them. The blankets had cigarette burns and other holes. Reception offered us another room, but it was worse: there were no sheets or blankets on the blood-stained mattress. I offered to show the desk the room’s condition, but they declined, saying they were “already aware of how the rooms are.” It was a disaster from start to finish. We won’t do business with this company again. Save yourself the time, money, and hassle. Don’t do business with rodeway inn.

The woman who checked me in was really nice. She put us on the third floor and explained where the elevator was, since my wife and I both have knee problems and couldn’t manage the stairs. But we were scared to death riding it. There’s no way that elevator is up to code. The hotel was hard to find, with no signs except on the building itself. The rooms are very small, which was okay for the price, but our sheets weren’t clean and felt rough. There was something red on the comforter that looked like blood to my wife, though we can’t say for sure. If you stay here, keep in mind that you get what you pay for.

We were exhausted, so we lay on our coats and slept for five hours before leaving. The sheets clearly hadn’t been changed, and we only had one pillow and damp, folded towels. There were no room keys available, so we had to go to the desk to be let in. Three lightbulbs were missing; when I went to ask for them, they had only one. The walls were grimy, and the paint and wall repairs didn’t match. A hole in the door, presumably where the peephole had been, was stuffed with tissue. Unsavory characters were roaming the property. Old and nasty. I was amazed Rodeway had deteriorated to this level.
