I felt scammed. The website photos weren’t accurate, and I took my own pictures to prove it. I saw a Black Friday deal for an overnight stay and should’ve guessed it was too good to be true. The area looked a little run down when we arrived, but I figured one night would be okay. It wasn’t. The staff member who checked us in was friendly and gave me a key card, then directed us to the back of the hotel. There were broken windows and doors on nearby rooms. Our bed was clean and made up, and the room looked clean at first, but the walls were dirty and badly patched. The door was warped with a visible gap to the outside, and its deadbolt was broken. I wedged a chair against it so the handle wouldn’t turn. There was one lamp with no USB port, and the TV was plugged in with an extension cord hanging against the wall. We were given only one towel of each size, despite there being two of us. We were short on money and had taken the trip on the spur of the moment, so we felt stuck. I was uneasy and worried the whole night. They required a $200 deposit, and I waited until the hold was released before posting. I didn’t expect the Hilton for such a low price, but I did expect a clean room and to feel safe. I’ve learned to check reviews before booking.

Blood on the ceiling, damp sheets that smelled like pee, smoke smell in the room, and sticky floors. The bathroom had no soap or trash can, and the toilet moved whenever you sat down because it wasn’t secured to the floor. The chair was torn, and there were only five TV channels. The whole place was nasty, and I felt disgusting sleeping there for the night. Dirtiest motel I’ve ever stayed in. I’ll never stay at a Super 8 again.

My family and I came to Mobile for Mardi Gras. I don’t usually stay here, but everywhere else was booked and the prices weren’t bad. When we arrived, there were no towels or pillowcases. I had to call twice about that, but it wasn’t even the main problem. We got in very late the first night, showered, and went to bed, then left very early the next morning. When we came back, I noticed a large patch of black mold. It made for a long, restless night. The next morning I raised it with the manager, who was dismissive. She said she hadn’t slept the night before and was tired. When I said I hadn’t been able to sleep either and that her lack of sleep wasn’t my problem, she said she’d help the man behind me and would get to my complaint when she had time. She also said she had an important phone call and couldn’t deal with me. Then she went to the back office and called security to have me removed. As I was leaving, another woman came in to complain that her room hadn’t been cleaned at all. I’d never stay here again, even if it were the last hotel in Mobile. There’s also drug activity and prostitution going on here. Sorry for the long rant, I tried to sum it up a little.

After a seven-hour drive, I arrived at Super 8 on April 10 with my husband and two young kids. Finding it was a problem: the GPS took us to the Drury Hotel being built across the highway, and it was my husband’s good eyesight that helped us spot Super 8 on the other side. I drove around for at least 15-20 minutes, and when I called the front desk for directions, the woman kept me on hold far too long. Walking to our room, I noticed a young man across the way staring us down with a creepy expression. He followed us, ducked into a room as if to make it look less obvious, then came right back out and walked toward the lobby. I felt unsafe and uncomfortable. We had only hand towels, no large ones, and there was a cockroach in the shower. I wouldn’t bathe my kids around roaches. At the desk, the Indian man who I think was the owner walked with me as though he was going to get towels from another room, but then told me to go back and said he’d bring some if he had them. We waited, but nobody brought towels, and there was a lot of activity around us. Worst hotel experience I’ve had, and I won’t return. Please stay away. It felt like a trap house surrounded by sketchy ladies of the night.

Only consider this place if you travel a lot and just want the bare minimum. The room itself was fine, though the door lock looked shady, and the place was mediocre at best. My wife went to check out the so-called free breakfast, but there was really just prepackaged oatmeal, bread, and a waffle machine that didn’t work. Worst of all, they kept our $50 deposit, claiming we’d damaged towels. They weren’t damaged, just a bit dirty from us showering. We felt seriously scammed.
