Red Lion Hotel Monterey

We’d noted online that we were bringing our dog and requested a first-floor room, then I called the property to confirm the booking and mention the dog again. We had booked a pet-friendly king room, but on arrival they assigned us a third-floor room with double beds. The desk said no first-floor rooms were available because that was the pet-friendly floor, then said our reservation didn’t list any pets. After I explained that I’d called and confirmed, he was able to move us to the second floor, which was okay. Once there, I stepped in something sticky on the floor, and found several hairs on the bathroom floor and in the sink. There was no designated pet area, and trash was scattered outside. My dog seemed uncomfortable walking on the dirt or grass, as if something might have been sprayed there as a deterrent. I’ve stayed at many Motel 6 properties that were cleaner and better managed, so I was quite disappointed.

The receptionist made me feel welcome and was really helpful 😊 🤗. Housekeeping deserves credit too, the rooms were so fresh and clean. I slept for two days in a comfy bed and woke up refreshed for my work week 🥰💕. There’s a microwave and refrigerator in the room. I’d definitely recommend Red lion Hotel to friends and family!

The bed was clean and reasonably comfortable, though the pillows were half-size. Still, I don’t think the price was good value. The property is worn and showing its age, with upkeep that seems minimal and not enough maintenance. Unless there’s some new investment, I’d look elsewhere.

We were happy with our seven-night honeymoon stay, and the location worked perfectly for everything we wanted to do. The property was very quiet, the bed was clean and soft, housekeeping kept up with service, and everyone we met was nice. We never felt nervous or unsafe, though we might have liked a few more parking lot lights at the back. A few small things on arrival: the floor felt tacky, as if it had been mopped with too much cleaner, some bathroom caulk needs refreshing, and we didn’t love the barn door when there was room for a proper one. We’d absolutely recommend the hotel to anyone visiting the area.
