SpringHill Suites by Marriott Montgomery Downtown

The property’s cleanliness and service problems made an already emotionally difficult trip harder. I waited nearly an hour to check in because no front desk associate was available; a housekeeper said the manager or desk representative was away. When someone came back, they didn’t apologize or acknowledge the delay, and I had to ask if I could check in. The room was in poor shape. The couch looked so dirty I asked for a blanket to sit on, and the next morning I found dead bugs on the lampshade, cobwebs by the lights, rust on the desk, a dirty coffee maker, a broken refrigerator, and an in-room phone that was dirty and didn’t work. I asked for a replacement fridge and coffee maker, then waited close to an hour without an update. When I went downstairs, the associate who was meant to bring them was standing there looking at his phone, so I collected the replacements myself. I had the same experience when I asked for extra towels. Staff generally seemed slow to respond, disengaged, and indifferent, with little urgency or accountability. I spoke with the manager and a front desk associate, who said I’d receive a complimentary night and 10,000 Bonvoy points. Two months later, I still haven’t received either. I stayed at SpringHill Suites Montgomery Downtown from January 5-8, 2026, and delayed writing this to make sure I was being thoughtful and measured. Management needs to look at the operation, cleaning standards, and staff training so others don’t have the same experience.

We’d only return if there weren’t large groups staying at the same time. Three school groups were there during our visit, and they were noisy at night and took over the shared spaces. The hotel is in a great spot, with plenty of restaurants and museums just a few blocks away. Breakfast was decent, though the staff seemed overwhelmed by the number of people and struggled to restock food and clean.

The staff were quick to help, and the room was large, clean, and renovated. The bathroom was roomy and modern, with brick walls and 20ft ceilings giving the place a classic feel. I stayed one night at SpringHill Suites before OTS. There’s a small, clean fitness room and a washer and dryer, though the dryer doesn’t work. Restaurants are within walking distance.

Valet was quick when I needed my car. There’s also metered street parking, monitored during business hours. You can leave a car there after 5, but the meter needs payment by 8:00AM. The suite layout has a living area and a bedroom, and ceilings around 15 tall make the room feel huge. Lighting in the room could be better. Breakfast was standard, with waffles, biscuits, eggs, sausage, and yogurt. The hotel is in a historic building that’s been repurposed, and I had a great experience overall.
