Otter Creek Inn

After a day of great hiking, we stopped in for cold ones and snacks. The owner recommended a local root beer. We'll absolutely be back, hopefully tomorrow, for lobster rolls!

The cabins at Otter Creek Inn are quaint and have full kitchens, plenty of towels, and great water pressure. The couch with the trundle for extra space was super comfortable. Continental breakfast, with coffee, toast, whole fruit, and cereal, was a nice added value. Thanks to Dawn for accommodating us, and many thanks to Evelyn for her excellent suggestions on where to explore around the island. She's a many generational Mainer, and her local tips really hit the mark.

Cute shop, and the wood was inexpensive, but most of the logs we bought were still wet halfway through, so we couldn't get a fire going. It looked like the wood had been kept inside, which made that surprising. The woman at the counter refunded us the next day.

Our experience was upsetting and the opposite of the friendly service described in so many reviews. There were four of us traveling together, including our Hispanic friend. We simply asked whether the lobster was served warm or chilled. The response was to mock us, call us stupid, and tell us to leave immediately. As we were leaving, shocked and embarrassed, the owner yelled “have a nice life” and ordered us off the property. It may sound exaggerated, but that's exactly what happened. Afterwards, we found other reviews on Yelp and TripAdvisor describing similar racist and aggressive encounters, and based on what happened to us, we agree. I would never return and strongly advise people of color to avoid this establishment. The behavior was openly hostile and discriminatory. Please be careful. Zero stars if possible.
