Motel 6 Mount Vernon, IL

The staff were friendly and very helpful when I needed a room for the night. It’s behind America's best value Inn hotel. The room was clean and comfortable, smoke-free, with no bed bugs, and the beds were comfortable too. I got a nice warm shower that woke me right up. 1000 stars.

Cheap and convenient, sure, but the room greeted me with a smell like a mop head that hadn’t been changed in years. The new owners have let maintenance and cleanliness slide. The rooms are old, the lights didn’t work right, and the microwave and fridge were filthy. The tub looked like it had only been rinsed, with no cleaner used. Since a refund wasn’t an option, I bought cleaner at Walmart and my own towels because the motel towels were old and stained. It’s hard to believe the money coming in isn’t going back into the property. For travel, I’d spend more elsewhere. Never again, and I wouldn’t recommend it.

The room was on the small side but clean. I liked that it didn’t have LED bulbs.

We paid over $500 for four people to stay two nights during the eclipse. It was fairly quiet, even with so many people there, but there were only three large towels for our party of four. My bigger frustration was a necklace I left hanging over the TV. I can see it in the photo I took before checkout. It wasn’t expensive, but it meant something to me. I called and was told nothing had been found; they said they’d check with housekeeping and call back, but I never heard anything.
