The room I asked for was on the first floor because I didn't feel safe, but they put me at the very back of the third floor. There was no elevator, and the placement felt inconsiderate and possibly intentional. People hanging around the parking lot added to the uneasy feeling, and the outside and entrance were dirty. The property is very outdated. The front desk employee was extremely rude and even snatched the keys from my hand. I only stayed because it was very late and there were no other rooms nearby. In the first room, I found a large spider in the bathroom sink as soon as I walked in. Cleanliness was unacceptable, with poor upkeep and what looked like debris on the walls. This was an extremely disappointing stay, and not what I'd expect from a hotel in any condition. I wouldn't recommend this Super 8 in Mount Vernon, IL.

I wasn't sure what to expect from the reviews, but I was pleasantly surprised and grateful. The room was very clean, quiet, and had great pillows and bedding. I slept well before my six-hour drive, and my doggie liked it too. Great value and a good place overall!

When I called the night before to say we'd arrive late, I tried 17 times and got hung up on before I could say anything. I contacted Wyndem as a rewards member, but the hotel wouldn't answer them either. I had to email about our late arrival, and they still called me twice to ask if I was coming. The service was horrible. At 3:45 a.m., my one-and-a-half-year-old grandson had run out of milk. I knew breakfast didn't start until 6, but the vending machine was broken, so I couldn't even get him juice or Gatorade. I asked the desk if they could make an exception and get a little milk from the back. They said no, breakfast didn't open until 6. The hallways were freezing, and the small heater in the room didn't warm the bathroom, so we couldn't shower.

The room had a perfume smell, which gives me bad migraines. At check-in, nobody was at the front desk at first, and the guy showed up later. There are no elevators, just stairs, and the hotel is split level.

Ruby was really nice and gave excellent service. I was disappointed that I had to talk through a kiosk instead of to someone directly. Otherwise, I'd have given five stars. :)
