Soho House Nashville

The Pilates class and instructor were wonderful, which is why I was considering joining SoHo after attending a class open to the public. Afterwards, my friend and I wanted smoothies and asked the gym attendant where to buy them. He sent us to the bar area, knowing we weren’t members. We went downstairs with the class freebies, a towel, mist, and water, and asked a man where the bar was. He asked whether we were hotel guests or members. When we said no to both, he told us we weren’t allowed there. We left immediately, shocked by his condescending, rude tone. If the restaurant isn’t open to the public, he could have explained that kindly and professionally. As far as I know, it is open to the public. My friend and I are both POC, and it truly felt like we were treated that way because of our dark skin and the freebies we carried, as if he thought we were taking things. I’ve never been treated so rudely, even at the 5-star hotels I’ve stayed at around the country. If something is limited to members, it could have been explained kindly. I guess SoHo house hires people who look down on others, and calls that exclusivity. I’m extremely disappointed and hurt. I don’t think I’ll ever come back if I can help it.

The vibe of the space was nice, though I didn’t stay at the hotel. I went for an event, but had a hard time finding the place at night. You can’t see the name above the door, and there aren’t signs to show you’re headed the right way. It was my first time in Nashville and I’m not from there, so I was a little confused.

The property is lovely, but the rules are ridiculous. I paid +$400 per night and they wouldn’t let me work on my laptop in most public areas. The only place to do actual work was by the pool, which was under construction. I’ll never return.

Three stars is generous. I’ve been a member for a few years, and most people I know are canceling or have recently canceled. Soho used to be nice, but it’s fallen apart over the past couple of years. There’s no parking anymore, they show no regard for member safety in the neighborhood, and service quality has disappeared. Half the gym is now a permanent Pilates setup that costs extra. The showers and locker rooms aren’t cleaned, and laptop rules keep getting more restrictive. What was branded as an exclusive social club now seems to admit almost anyone. Entry-level agency assistants have flooded in, and it’s no longer exclusive or cool. If it’s neither a collaborative workspace nor an exclusive club, I guess it’s just a heinously overpriced restaurant with no parking. Pass, spend your time on cooler things. 3.4/10.
