Brooklyn Motor Inn

The staff were very friendly and helpful, and the location worked well for our one night before a cruise a few years ago. We walked to Carroll Gardens for dinner, a wine shop, and what I think was the best bakery ever, Monteleone on Court St. In the morning we walked a short way to drop our luggage at the cruise ship, then took a cab to Manhattan to see the 9/11 Memorial. The place looked a little tired, but it did the job, and I'd stay again.

There are some nice restaurants and bars in Red Hook within easy walking distance. The rooms aren't huge, but they're fairly well updated and have a microwave and mini fridge. We had a non-smoking room that I'm pretty sure had been smoked in, since there was even an ash tray, though the smell was barely noticeable. The photos were taken as we were leaving, so any wrinkled sheets and such were from us. It's a basic hotel, but a clean place to sleep.

I chose this place for the balance of price and location, and the onsite parking was convenient. The staff were really nice, and my small room was cozy. Outside noise was louder than I'd have liked, and the elevator seemed a bit sketchy, so I'd suggest the stairs if you're claustrophobic. One night the fire alarm went off, but it stopped before I could get out of bed. It's a cool place to crash, and I'll return next time I'm in the area because the convenience matters more to me than nicer amenities.

The free parking was great, and the price suited a young couple. We were out around the city most of the time and only needed a place to sleep, but don't expect luxury or a superb stay. The hotel smelled strongly of cigarettes despite the no smoking signs, and the room next to us played loud music most of the night. Nobody seemed to care, and I didn't think complaining to management would get me far. The elevator was out of order, which was a pain with our bags, though thankfully we were only on the third floor.
