We ended up leaving and finding another hotel because we felt so unwelcome. This was meant to be a special Valentine’s weekend for my partner and me, and the whole check-in experience was upsetting. The front desk woman was rude and seemed annoyed we’d booked ahead. She said our Expedia-confirmed reservation had been canceled, but gave no clear reason. She claimed they’d contacted us through Expedia and by phone, though we got no notice or missed calls until the next day, after we arrived. We’d booked three weeks earlier, so it was a shock. When we calmly asked what had happened, she dismissed us and made it seem like our fault. No one tried to sort it out. We were told we could stay only if we paid more than double the original price. I got the impression she was irritated we’d even come to check in. We were uncomfortable and wouldn’t recommend staying here.

The doorman was lovely, and the other women at the front desk seemed nice, but the woman who checked us in was so rude. She was curt and seemed upset that we’d booked using Capital One points. I was disappointed after reading so many reviews about welcoming staff, especially since this was a staycation with my fiancé. She didn’t explain the hotel or its offerings, or tell us the key card had to be swiped in the elevator to go up. She also didn’t look into a room upgrade, which is a Capital One member benefit. Our room view wasn’t great either. I’d expected the stay to be wonderful, but next time I book a staycation I’ll look elsewhere.

The team made our delayed honeymoon feel special, including a bagel and mimosa breakfast delivered to our room that completely made our day. Everyone we met was genuinely warm and friendly. The Standard East Village has a cool style and a great vibe, and the café and restaurant are nice places to hang out. Having a gym right across the street was convenient, too. We couldn’t have picked a better spot.

The room had an incredible view, and Kershel helped us get checked in as soon as it was ready when we arrived a little early. Once the team heard we were in town for my girlfriend’s birthday, they surprised us with champagne and chocolate covered strawberries. We’re so happy we chose The Standard east village for our NYC stay. It’s been perfect, and the hospitality and accommodations make it easy to recommend.
