We booked The Hotel Edison as a base for exploring New York, and it ended up exceeding what we expected. Our group was three married couples, and we all came away with much the same view. The rooms were clean and tidy. The beds are firm, but my wife and I slept well every night, which says a lot since I usually don’t sleep well at home. We had two bottles of water in the room each day without an extra charge, and there are filtered water stations and ice machines on every floor. The location was great for getting around, and the staff made things easy from start to finish. Front desk, cleaners, bell staff, bar and restaurant teams were all polite, efficient, and willing to help. We were there during the blizzard and city lockdown. The hotel left us a note apologizing for staff shortages, though we barely noticed any disruption because everyone worked hard to keep our stay comfortable. Breakfast vouchers were provided for each guest each night. The Bond 45 grab-and-go option was included and had a choice of fruit or pastry, a hot sandwich, yogurt or pancakes, and juice, water, tea or coffee. It was quick, tasty, and suited the purpose. The restaurant breakfast was available for an extra $6.95, with a basic menu and good food, but I preferred the grab-and-go. The restaurants also serve lunch and dinner to hotel guests and people coming in off the street. We ate at the restaurant once and at Bond 45 a few times, and enjoyed the food and drinks at both. Bond 45’s bar staff were fantastic, and those cocktails have a kick, 10/10. One cost to be ready for: there’s a room tax of about $45 (£34) per night at arrival, which I think may apply across city hotels, though I could be wrong. They also hold a $100 deposit. I understand why that might surprise people, but it didn’t bother me. Before our UK trip, I’d seen some bad reviews and worried we were in for a nightmare. That wasn’t our experience at all. Thanks to everyone at The Hotel Edison for making the trip more comfortable and easygoing.

I’m writing for my parents, who stayed at your hotel this week. They don’t speak English and had a wonderful stay overall, but the last incident was awful. They loved the hotel and had been treated very well until then. They needed help finding out where the shuttle would pick them up, since they understood it was supposed to collect them at the hotel. My mother was pleading with the front desk to take the call she was on because she couldn’t follow it properly. Marco, who speaks Spanish and French, told them he wouldn’t help unless they asked him to call a taxi. They were trying to manage in English with the little they know. Not everyone has had the chance to learn English. After 15 minutes of stress, a French-speaking security guard helped them. How can you make guests feel so uncomfortable when they’re asking for help at the front desk? I won’t recommend the hotel if nothing is done about this person. They’re clients, and they deserved assistance.

The rooms were spacious and comfortable, but that’s about all I can praise. We had booked breakfast, only to find it meant a grab-and-go meal from a local cafe, with a paid upgrade to dine in. That should have been clear when booking. The extra facility fees charged on arrival should be included in the room price too. Both felt like ways to get more money out of visitors.

The location, just around from Time Square, is brilliant, and the rooms were clean and comfortable, though dated. I came with 10 others for a birthday and we stayed four days. Reception and security staff were mostly polite. My room was very noisy because of air conditioning Units outside, so I asked to move. The replacement was no better. My main complaint, though, was the luggage handler. I was standing with my bags waiting my turn, and he told me I needed to communicate better. I said it was obvious I was waiting for him or another handler to take my cases to the luggage store. He got even ruder and more obnoxious. He shouldn’t be dealing with hotel guests.

The staff were so warm, attentive, and full of personality, and the included breakfast was better than some of the restaurants I tried in the city. My room was quiet and had an amazing view, and the location was perfect for exploring all day. Walking into the hotel felt like stepping back in time, and I didn’t want to leave. Thanks for looking after us, I’m looking forward to coming back ❤️👌
