Hotel Newton

I was able to book at the last minute, and the location was extremely convenient. The hotel is very pretty, and my small room was comfortable. One thing that bothered me was a step between the bedroom and bathroom that was easy to trip over at night. I’d also prepaid, then got charged another $22 at the hotel; I wish they’d communicated that more clearly.

We stayed the week before Christmas, and the room was clean when we arrived and stayed that way. The hotel is also well placed for the subway, food, grocery stores, and pretty much anything else we needed. The room had a microwave and mini-fridge. Getting coffee in the lobby was a little inconvenient, but not enough to put us off. The front desk staff were helpful, and we’ll definitely return on our next visit.

The location was good for the subway, and the lift worked reliably. The reception area had good air conditioning, unlike the rest of the hotel. I liked the quiet fridge and microwave, and the furniture drawers were sturdy. That’s about where the positives ended. For what we paid, I was disappointed and think we could have found somewhere much better for our first NYC trip. It took 40 minutes to get hot water the first time, though it was fine after that. The air con worked, but sounded like a tractor, so at night it was either that noise or sauna-like heat. The bathroom hair dryer seemed like a health hazard and should be condemned. The old bed and three small square pillows were really uncomfortable. The room door stuck every time. The carpet, lamps, windows, walls, and sockets all looked worn and old. The TV was stuck on the news, and the view was awful.

We’ve already stayed here twice and liked it both times. The subway is right outside, there’s food all around, and the staff are friendly. Our room was really nice. When booking, check whether the room has its own bathroom, since some do and some don’t, depending on what you want to pay. The rooms are good for reasonable prices. It isn’t modern, but I wasn’t expecting that, so no problem. I’d come back.
