LUMA Hotel Times Square

We’re already trying to figure out when we can come back. This felt like our home away from home, and the stay was so memorable. The location was right in the middle of everything, but the hotel sits quietly on a side street. Our room on the 9th floor faced the city and was surprisingly quiet. It was modern and well kept, with a comfortable bed and rooms that were always clean. The staff were welcoming every time we returned from sightseeing. We were there for our son’s 10th birthday, and the girls at the front, sorry I didn’t get her name, sent a robot up with balloons, sweet treats, and a birthday card for him. We chose this hotel for our Christmas visit to NYC because of the double king beds, which worked perfectly for our family of four and our two teens. The rooms were spacious and quiet, and the location put us close to Times Square, Bryant Park, and several subway stations. Staff were attentive and friendly. My son loved being asked about his day whenever we came back, and they were very accommodating when my daughter got sick and we needed cleaning supplies and extra towels. The robot, Alina, brought cute goodies from a package to our room, and even delivered a late-night food order. The stay itself was wonderful, but checkout left a small disappointment. I forgot my postcard stamps, entirely my fault, and asked if the hotel could mail the cards. I offered cash for the stamps and the staff member’s time, but they declined. Other hotels have helped me with this before, with or without payment, so I ended up mailing them from home in Texas. It put a slight damper on an otherwise nearly perfect visit, which is why I’m giving four stars instead of five.

The towels were the one letdown for me, since they felt stiff and scratchy instead of soft. Everything else about my four night stay in early January was great. The hotel is just steps from Times Square, Fifth Avenue, Bryant Park, and Rockefeller Center, yet the side street is quiet enough for a restful night. Check-in was quick, and the price felt fair for the location and quality. The staff were so friendly and accommodating, always making us feel at home. There were three of us in a king room with a pullout couch, and the couch was surprisingly comfortable. The room might seem small to some, but that’s standard for NYC. It was modern, clean, and well maintained. The view wasn’t special, though we were out exploring most of the time anyway. The bathroom had excellent water pressure and quality name-brand soaps, and the room technology was advanced but easy to use. We didn’t try the bar and restaurant downstairs, but it always seemed popular. I’d recommend the hotel and stay again.

The rooms were clean, the mattresses comfortable, and the attendants very friendly. I’d recommend the hotel and its location, but skip the meals. Breakfast was cold, bland, and unseasoned, and the bacon had a funky taste. I know it’s a hotel breakfast, but at $27 each there were plenty of nearby places where we could get coffee or a sandwich for the same price or less. After paying for breakfast, we went around the corner for another meal that was 100 times more satisfying and that we could keep down.
