Ramada Hotel Staten Island

The room was comfortable, the place was clean, and the people were nice. But the price was way out of line with what you get. Three nights cost me twice as much as my flight, for a hotel that was just the bare minimum, nothing fancy. The WiFi kept disconnecting and lagging all day, every day, which was infuriating. Even with the friendly staff, I can't see myself coming back when the cost sets expectations so much higher.

We ended up leaving for another place after nearly a week. This morning we were told our building was being evacuated, and there are two buildings. The whole one our room was in smelled like marijuana being grown, not just smoked. The hotel has no elevators, and after we'd loaded everything we were told to carry it down the stairs. We'd also asked for a non-smoking room, but it had an ashtray and reeked of stale cigarette smoke. We travel as a family for my husband's work and our child does virtual school, so we bring quite a few bags for stays of one to two weeks. With no microwave or fridge, we have to go out for meals, and the breakfast options are kind of a joke. Having stayed there almost a week, I agree with the negative reviews I've seen. The coffee was good, and it was quiet, almost eerily so.

The hotel was quiet, but that was about the only thing I liked. Cigarette smoke hit us as soon as we entered the lobby, and my room hadn't been properly cleaned before check-in. The complimentary breakfast had a poor selection, and after seeing staff handle the food unhygienically, I decided not to eat there. I put a towel by the door to block the smell coming from the hallway. The front desk also isn't open around the clock, and sometimes no one was there when I needed help. I'd go somewhere else.

The bedroom was clean and pleasant, and the bed was comfortable. The front desk staff were courteous, too. The bathroom was the main problem: it had stains from the previous guest and hadn't been cleaned thoroughly. There was what looked like dried vomit all over the tub and on some towels. I told the front desk, and they sent someone with fresh towels who offered to clean the tub. It was late and I just wanted to sleep, so I didn't use the shower during my one-night stay.
