Red Roof Inn PLUS+ Jamaica, NY – JFK Airport

The neighborhood felt dirty, full of garbage, and very sketchy, and I felt unsafe from the moment I arrived. The building was badly run down. Its front door was broken, so I had to drag my heavy luggage through a dark side alley to get inside. The elevator was out of order too, which meant carrying my bags up several flights of stairs. The customer service agent was unprofessional and incompetent. The walls were paper thin, so I heard doors slamming, people yelling in the hall, and sirens constantly outside. The water seemed extremely polluted, and there was mold everywhere. Red Roof Plus+ was the worst hotel experience of my life. Save your money and sanity. I can't recommend staying here under any circumstances.

I had to book at the last minute after a flight change, and Red roof inn plus seemed like it might work. It turned into the worst hotel stay I've had. There was nobody at the front desk when we arrived, and we waited almost 20 minutes before anyone showed up. The place definitely wasn't smoke-free, with marijuana smell everywhere. The TV didn't work, there was no hot water in our room, and people yelled in the halls all night. When we called the front desk, the only option they offered was to check out and find somewhere else. Save your money and stay elsewhere.

The staff tried to help, and the location worked well for my late-night and early-morning train travel. It was an affordable midpoint on the way to Long Island, about a 5 to 7 minute walk from Jamaica train station. Still, my stay at Red Roof Inn + in Jamaica, Queens, in March 2026 was just serviceable, very much a case of getting what you pay for. My first room had a toilet that hadn’t been fully cleaned, with toilet paper still there. The front desk moved me, but that’s a lousy way to start. The elevator was out for my whole stay, which made the hotel effectively inaccessible. I’d have thought twice about staying with older relatives or kids, and it made resting there less comfortable. The side street is poorly lit at night, and you can hear people hanging out in the neighborhood. If you’re used to urban noise, that may be fine. Otherwise, I’d look elsewhere if there’s another option in your price range.

A weather cancellation at JFK sent me here, and I’d stay again. It’s a no-frills place with good value and several cheap restaurants within a block. The front desk guy was fun to talk with and helped me sort out the heater. My room started out freezing, though it took a few calls before the heater worked, and it wasn’t straightforward to figure out. Once it was blowing, the room warmed enough to sleep. The hallway was pretty dirty while I was there. The Jamaica Air Tran station is within walking distance.
