Royal Stay Hotel

I stayed in the King Bedroom. It was comfortable and clean, there wasn't a bad smell, and the train station was close. For something cheap but decent, this place is a good option. Just know they only take cash at check-in, which is at 3:00pm. There aren't any chairs in the lobby, so try to arrive around check-in time. Other than that, it was fine and I have no complaints. 👍🏼

The room was filthy and smelled so bad that we left and had to get a refund. There were several stains on the carpet, burn holes in the blanket, and no smoke detector on the wall. The staff were nasty, and even the lobby was dirty. We found a room at La Quinta Wyndham about five minutes away. It cost a little more, but parking was easy and breakfast was free. Avoid Royal Stay. The good reviews here are lies.

After our first night, Expedia helped cancel the rest of our stay. As we were leaving, a group was waiting to check out with no staff around to help, and another guest said he'd seen roaches too and was leaving three days early. The hotel should have been condemned and closed by the city by now. It's old, dirty, outdated, and the walls are paper thin. We found a small cockroach in the bed right after checking in, so we asked to switch rooms. The receptionist moved us to a small, dank basement room and was neither apologetic nor enthusiastic. The heater didn't work, and the bathroom light wouldn't turn off. Stay anywhere else, a hostel, Airbnb, under a bridge, on a park bench, whatever, just don't stay here.

I left ten minutes after checking in. The supposedly non-smoking room reeked as if a chain smoker had lived there for years, and it was filthy. The pillows were tiny, the customer service was atrocious, and being asked for a $60 cash deposit felt sketchy. I tried to get my money back through Priceline, but they refused. The worst hotel experience of my life, easily.
