Surface Inn Brooklyn

For $100 a night, this was okay, especially since it was the cheapest option in NYC. My friend and I had just come off a road trip with very low expectations, and the room was spacious, the bed comfy, and the bathroom decent enough for one night. The price seemed fair for what we got. The receptionist wasn't much help with our questions, and all the signs warning about fines and things you can't do made the place feel unwelcoming. The walls were thin, and noisy cleaning staff or something happening in the hall woke us up.

For my 24-hour songwriting and music trip, I just wanted a clean, decent room for one night in Brooklyn, and this worked. It wasn't expensive, and the room was comfortable and clean. I had no issues. The neighborhood could make some people feel uneasy, though I'm used to the gritty feel of Oakland, Philly, and Baltimore, so it didn't bother me. I'd recommend it.

No hot water, no pillows, and just one roll of toilet paper when we arrived around 9:30 or 10 on Friday night. The first person at the desk refused to help, so I tried again in the morning. The receptionist then said nobody from housekeeping was available and told me to come back that evening. At about 8 a.m., I would have thought housekeeping was already cleaning rooms. Never again. Avoid this place.

I hadn't seen a roach in three years, and now there were several all over the room. I'm terrified of bugs, and changing rooms after I called the desk didn't help at all. They said they had no spray, so at 1 a.m. I had to order roach spray through Gopuff and cover the room myself. I stayed awake all night watching my bags and suitcases, even though there was no food in them. Nobody should pay $100 for a hotel this infested.
