Travelodge by Wyndham Ozone Park

Check-in and checkout were easy, and the room had plenty of storage, a microwave, and a fridge, which could suit a longer stay on a budget. But there was an odd smell in both the halls and rooms, and the large mirror wasn’t secured well. It nearly fell twice after a slight accidental bump. Breakfast was underwhelming. Some items were missing, there were no drinks besides coffee, and my muffin crumbled into bits when I broke it apart, as if it had dried out from sitting too long. The coffee machine was out of order, probably for a while. When an employee started her shift, she went straight to checking the filters in the small coffee makers, the sort of routine that takes time to establish.

The room was extremely clean, with a ceramic floor instead of carpet, and the staff were super friendly. Parking was easy every time, either behind or in front of the hotel, without any waiting or hunting for a spot. It’s a five-minute walk to the A line subway, about 10 minutes from JFK, and there are lots of food places nearby. Definitely recommend it.

There are about 26 rooms in this three-story hotel but parking for only 10-12 cars, which seems unusual. The dining area is small and breakfast choices are very limited. The breakfast server was very rude, though perhaps someone else was filling in on the holiday, since the service the next day was good. I don’t recommend it.

For this price in New York, the stay was about what we expected. The breakfast was bland and not very good. What surprised us was that a hotel this large didn’t have a beer bottle opener. They gave us a wine opener that wouldn’t work for our purpose and insisted we return it to the front desk as soon as possible because it was the only one they had.
