Courtyard Newark Granville

We arrived to a filthy room, with a dead bug, coffee splashes, and what looked like someone else's sock. They first upgraded us, then downgraded us when we got there, saying they'd overbooked. We had put our dog on the reservation, but no pet fee was charged at first. When they called to say we needed to pay one, we figured it was probably a system glitch and told them the dog was already listed. We were happy to pay. The woman at the front desk was unbelievably rude and unprofessional when we went to settle the fee, for no reason. I wouldn't have left a bad review if she hadn't treated us that way.

The staff were the bright spot, and the bed was nice. It was quiet too, which is why I gave it three stars. But this place doesn't meet Courtyard standards. The pool was closed, the ice machine on our floor was broken, and the shower door wouldn't stay shut. The lobby quick stop was poorly stocked, and all the furniture except the bed was in terrible shape. The parking lot was filthy. I won't stay here again until it's updated.

The beds were comfortable, but the hotel is old and needs renovation. Both the room and the hotel smelled musty, and the extra pillows I asked for never showed up. The pool apparently “doesn't work.” I'd look for a better place next time I'm in the area.

The AC was covered in dead bugs. If they aren't cleaning what's easy to see, I can only wonder where the rest are hiding. The bistro was so bad I had to meme about it. This place is gross and dingy, and the staff and bistro are the worst I've encountered at a Courtyard. I've stayed at plenty of them. One stay here was enough for me, and it makes me question whether I want to keep using the brand. It's the worst hotel I've stayed at in licking county, though the one before it had bed bugs. At least 8 rooms here don't have bed bugs, so credit for that, I guess.
