Hideaway Inn Mt.Sunapee

We had many rooms for my family, and everyone dealt with either no running water or barely any. Reviews from October of 2024 describe the same problem. The basement play room was old, filthy, and smelly, and giant cardboard boxes of industrial materials, maybe plumbing pipes, sat in the lobby all weekend where people had to move around them. Staff seemed to spend as much time as possible in the back room, and there was nobody at the front desk much of the time. They prefer self check-in with a code instead of meeting guests when they arrive, and with staff there maybe 5 hours a day, security is a concern. It’s a pathetic excuse for a hotel, and it’s a wonder they take people’s money when they know the water doesn’t work properly. Book somewhere else.

There was no one at the desk, and their automated check-in didn’t work. After calling the number at the front desk, I waited 20 minutes for someone. The lobby and desk were covered in boxes and merchandise, so the place looked like a mess, apparently during changes under new ownership. I decided to change hotels and didn’t stay.

A snowstorm pushed us off the highway on Thanksgiving night, and I’m so glad we landed here. The place was cozy, kid friendly, and a great value for the price. My son played air hockey in the game room while I enjoyed the spacious, tasteful lounge areas and the first-floor fireplace. The mini-store was well curated, with local snacks and gifts, and I liked the thoughtful design throughout the building. I don’t ski, but the locker room had a dedicated spot to dry ski/snow boots and store gear. The pool looked inviting too, though I didn’t have my swimsuit. Our rooms were comfortable and the staff accommodating. After that stressful drive, it was a great experience. Next time I hope to try the pub/restaurant next door.

The lounge was nice, and I slept pretty well in the bed. The pub next door was a bit of a saving grace too, since the food was good. But the rest of the stay had problems. I called to confirm our adjoining rooms, since we wanted to hang out after our 2- and 4-year-old kids went to bed, and they lazily said everything was set. At check-in, the rooms were across the hall from each other. Luckily someone was there, though she was sitting in a back room, and she switched us to an empty wing awaiting renovations. One room smelled of BO and stale cologne. Water in the showers and sink cut out randomly, and shifted from hot to cold. There was no one at the desk for the rest of the weekend. The pool was fine for swimming, but it didn’t sparkle and there was no hot tub. The game room had coin-operated video games but no quarter machine, and it smelled really gross on our last day for some reason. I booked this place near a wedding and treated my husband and myself to adjoining rooms, but separate rooms across the hall just weren’t acceptable with kids aged 2 and 4. Reviews show the plumbing issue goes back at least nine months, with guests staying without proper water all that time. I hope they fix it, and I’d recommend a more traditional front desk so guests feel some hospitality and pride.
