Mystical Creek Pool Lodge #600

I contacted Aunt Bugs hoping they’d address the issues before the next guests, instead of having to leave a negative review. I got passed along repeatedly, was told someone had cleaned before we arrived, and never even received an apology. We’d rented the cabin for our wedding vacation so we could fit family and friends, though most of our friends stayed elsewhere. The beautiful view from the front porch was a bright spot, and the cabin was secluded, but I was embarrassed to have brought everyone there. It was infested with live bugs and cockroaches, with dead bugs throughout too. They were in the tubs, beds, showers, windows, and even the refrigerator. The place didn’t seem to have been cleaned in a long time: there was dust and cobwebs above the kitchen cupboards, food stuck to the walls and cupboards, and another guest’s cake topper still on the fridge. Christmas decorations and a poinsettia were still in the living room. The oven smoked from all the grease when we turned it on. The upstairs shower water seemed to go into the wall instead of coming out of the showerhead. There was a coffee machine but no pot, and the pool sticks were broken or missing tips. The jacuzzi tub jets worked only when they felt like it, and the old window blinds were falling apart. Bring DVDs if you want to use the theater, otherwise it’s useless. The only thing I liked was the mountain view from the porch. The house looked beautiful, but it wasn’t very clean. There were dead ladybugs and gnats on the bedroom floors by the windows and in the whirlpool tubs, and on our arrival day gnats were flying everywhere. The pullout beds were nasty. The pool walls felt kind of slimy, and the hot tub buttons didn’t work, so it was just a hot pool. The showers creaked so badly it felt like the floor might give way, and the faucet was barely attached and moved around. Don’t waste your money here, there are much better cabin rental places.

The location is beautiful, and the cabin could be great, but we paid a premium holiday rate and had a disappointing stay. It hadn’t been cleaned well: the carpeted room floors weren’t vacuumed, there were dead bugs in all the window sills, and cobwebs and dirt throughout. I emailed Aunt Bugs Rentals on our first day with my concerns and never heard back. We rent large places several times a year and haven’t had an experience like this. The pool didn’t work for the whole week. We contacted the owner, who said it would be fixed by Thursday. The owner did respond and sent someone to inspect the pool, but it wasn’t repaired. That person also fixed the hot tub, which was out for only one day.

We rented this cabin when COVID first hit, and somehow the review I left then disappeared, so I’m writing again. The worst part was the bats living in the attic, especially above the bedroom where my grandbabies were supposed to sleep. The smell from their urine and feces was horrible. The hot tub didn’t work, the heated indoor pool wasn’t even warm, and the theater room was out of order. Aunt Bugs sent a repair person, but he didn’t fix anything, except that I’ll give him this, he got the hot tub working once. I complained to Aunt Bugs, especially about the bats, and got no response. We used to stay with them every time, but we’ll never rent from them again. We’re pretty easygoing and don’t complain about small things, but this cabin was a splurge and quite a bit more expensive. The problems were ridiculous.
