Econo Lodge At The Falls

The front desk staff were friendly, helpful, and attentive. The room seemed clean, and we're glad to say there were no bed bugs. The mattress was comfortable, and we liked having a little outdoor space attached to the room. The air conditioner smelled a bit musty, though. The TV wasn't smart, and the Chromecast was unplugged and not set up. The hotel TV system didn't work either, so bring a laptop. The bedside switches turned on lamps across the room, while the switches on the lamps didn't work. You could hear quite a lot through the walls, especially the elevator. There was a complimentary bottle that I assume was meant for wine, but it was empty despite a note saying to enjoy it. The attached restaurant and bar were out of service for the winter until February, which is understandable but disappointing. There were no hot breakfast options because the kitchen wasn't operating.

Brandon really made this birthday stay for us. I’d called ahead to arrange champagne and dessert for my husband’s 40th, and the suite was decorated with petals and had the champagne waiting, but the dessert hadn’t arrived. Brandon apologized, explained that it was the off season and the kitchen wasn’t open, then found a way to get us birthday brownies. We appreciated that a lot. The hotel itself has a cool look, with decorations and paintings that made it feel classy rather than like a standard chain. Everything seemed clean, our jacuzzi suite was lovely, and the tub was fabulous. It’s close to everything, and we visit Niagara Falls often, so we can say this was our best stay in the city. Customer service was excellent, and the free breakfast option was a nice surprise.

We were glad this was only a one-night stay. The bathroom floor was dirty, the toilet was loud when flushed, and the shower curtain was coming apart and looked grimy. There was hair on the beds and pillows, more in the shower and on the shampoo and body wash bottles, plus little hairs and odd red spots in the tub. The towels were nasty, and both shower heads were dirty with barely any water pressure, so washing my hair was difficult. The balcony was okay, but the TV remote stopped working after it landed on Nick at Nite. There were also broken lights and dirty carpets.

The rooms were very nice, the bed was so comfortable, and the continental breakfast was really good. Staff at the desk were friendly both at night and in the morning. The elevators felt old and made noisy trips up and down, which made me a bit nervous, though that may just be me. We’re originally from Canada and were returning to Toronto the day after a cruise. In the morning we walked across the border to the Canadian side, spent a little time there, then caught the train. Easy to get to.
