Breakfast had a nice variety, the lobby was neat and clean, and the afternoon front desk clerk was a lovely, polite, helpful young woman. There's also a small gym. The room needs updating. Paint around the windows was peeling, and our mattress looked old, with flattened areas where people had slept. It was very uncomfortable. My husband and I woke up with stiff backs and a lot of pain, and even the pillows were old and lumpy. I can't say whether every room has mattresses like ours, but ours was horrible.

I'm a Platinum, Titanium, or Ambassador member, and none of those status perks seemed to count here. I couldn't get even a minute of late checkout on a Wednesday. They told me, “We don't do late check outs anymore.” Right by the airport, too. What if your flight's at 4 and you want to leave at 2? Ridiculous for a low-level Fairfield. I stood at the front desk for almost 10 minutes while two employees didn't acknowledge me, then walked away. Finally, someone I assume was the manager came over and said no without any sympathy. I'll be in Charleston several times again soon, so I'm making a note to skip this hotel.

The stay was good overall. The one issue was that a few other guests and I were yelled at for being by the pool after hours, at 11. Employees shouldn't yell at guests. There are more diplomatic ways to enforce the rules.

I went straight to the airport for breakfast after that meal. The selection was poor, the scrambled eggs were rubbery, and I couldn't identify the rest of the food. It all tasted terrible, and there was nothing fresh except one banana and two apples. No vegetables, nothing. I'm not picky, but I tried everything and it went into the trash. It was a shame, and I could barely stomach it. They served it on paper plates with plastic cutlery and paper cups. That fit the old, uncaring atmosphere, with leftovers still on the table from the people before us. I was there one night after a canceled flight. The room was fine and the staff were nice. My replacement flight wasn't until the afternoon, so after the stress of the day before, I was hoping for a quiet, decent breakfast. Instead, it was disastrous.
