They advertise this place as pet friendly, but apparently cats don’t count as pets. After driving for hours and booking because I thought I could stay with my cat, the situation turned into a nightmare. I can’t find a word for how unserious this was.
The room had some wear, like small patched holes in the wall and chipped furniture, but nothing too serious. It was clean, the beds were made, and I saw no sign of bedbugs. We had AC on at night to make the humid room comfortable, and I felt safe, even after dark. The free breakfast wasn’t really my thing, with pancakes from a machine, packaged muffins and bread, and juice from a dispenser, though my friend liked it. We were out most of the day, and the convenient location worked well. We checked out 30 minutes late and nobody made an issue of it. My friend booked the place, and reviews had me nervous, but our two-night stay was nice. The staff were polite, and I’d recommend it if you want somewhere affordable and relaxed.
I’m a paraplegic, recovering from an ulcer while getting ready to move into a new place. I paid for a week, but on my second day the manager accused me of smoking in my non-smoking room. I have one lung and don’t smoke. Housekeeping came by daily, and I understood that, but fatigue sometimes leaves me unable to move around. The queen bed is higher than my wheelchair tires, so I can’t keep getting back and forth, and I have a caretaker who visits each day. Other hotel workers had apparently been told about my situation, but not the manager. I let the housekeeper come in, then the manager followed with her shirt over her nose and said the room had to be clear for cleaning and the sheets needed changing. I tried to explain that I have a bedsore and can’t just get up and leave whenever housekeeping comes. She cut me off and told me maybe I should go somewhere else that could help me. Her attitude changed only when my caretaker came in after speaking with an employee at the front desk. She ignored me and spoke to my caretaker while I was trying to explain, and he again told her I don’t smoke. There’s so much marijuana smoke getting through the hotel that I think non-smoking guests should be compensated. I can’t help wondering if the smoking accusation was a way to keep my $100 cash deposit, which I worked hard for. This was already a stressful time, and I couldn’t believe how little sympathy or respect management showed. It felt like once they had my money, they found a reason to take the deposit. I can’t wait for my stay to end. I’ll never support this business again, and I’ll make people aware of how management treated me. I wouldn’t come back.
The North Charleston location was ideal, but that was about its only advantage. Outside our door smelled like urine, and the room was filthy: the bed wasn’t made and there were dirty towels on the sink. I used to love their rooms, but over time this place has started to feel like a lived-in motel.
The whole property looked run down, and the room felt like a cheap hotel: thin towels, an average bed, and terrible pillows. We’d hoped for a decent place at a good price, but it wasn’t. The room smelled damp and moldy, enough that the people next door asked if ours stank too. At check-in, the staff member put an incoming phone call ahead of us, even though we were standing right there. Put the call on hold. That’s basic customer service. I wouldn’t stay again.
