The Green Granite North Conway, an Ascend Collection Hotel

It's an old hotel with visible wear, but for what we paid, we thought they tried hard to give good value. We were a little nervous after reading reviews, yet we enjoyed the stay. Breakfast ran from 7 to 9:30 and was one of the better hotel breakfasts I've had at a similar price. On our first morning there were scrambled eggs, sausage patties, and hash browns. The next day brought cheese omelets, pancakes, and sausages. Coffee, yogurt, milk, oatmeal, apples, oranges, and juice were available each day. The Christmas tree in the breakfast area was a nice touch. We really appreciated the 24/7 Starbucks coffee, hot chocolate, and tea, especially being able to take a cup for the long drive home. Beds were decent with clean sheets, and the bathroom was clean enough. The shampoo, conditioner, body lotion, and hairdryer were nice extras. The shower had amazing pressure and hot water, just what we needed after a cold, rainy day trip. There was also a real fire going in the hallway fireplace, and the decor felt cozy and beautiful. Staff greeted us with a friendly good morning.

Stores are close by, which is convenient, but I wouldn't stay here again. The building needs major repairs and updating. Bathroom ceiling was rotted, apparently from a leak above the shower, and the tub was rusty and outdated. The bed squeaked terribly, and the heat was noisy too. Since this became a “choice hotel,” I'm surprised the parent company hasn't invested in fixing up the property.

I couldn't get the room door open, and when I went to the desk, the woman there was extremely rude. I told her the place was disgusting, and she said they hadn't updated the pictures. The actual property looks nothing like the photos online. The room was so gross that I left without staying and took the loss. It's absolute trash.

We only stayed one night on the way to our final destination, and I was glad it wasn't longer. The online photos don't really show how dated the rooms are, and the carpets badly need cleaning. I also doubt the rooms are cleaned thoroughly. There was a used bar of soap in our shower.
