Holiday Inn Norwich by IHG

The service was the part that really impressed me. The two young men at the front desk and the two women working around the bar and breakfast area were all exceptionally kind and welcoming. I can’t remember the ladies’ names, unfortunately. The hotel is also conveniently close to the casino and has a shuttle to Mohegan Sun.

We left a day early because the billing confusion and service made the stay too frustrating. Our Expedia deposit had been prepaid, but it wasn’t showing in the hotel system, so we had to deal with a payment discrepancy between the property and Expedia at check-in. Guests shouldn’t have to sort out a backend billing issue themselves. At the bar, the bartender seemed visibly frustrated while serving us, then was noticeably warmer with other guests. The difference was clear and uncomfortable. Hospitality should be consistent and impartial, whether someone is a regular or not. The experience fell well below what we expected, and the property needs to improve coordination with third-party bookings and keep customer service consistent.

Our room was spacious and clean, but Derek really made the visit. He was patient, kind, and accommodating, which is especially hard to find during a holiday. He went above and beyond without needing to be asked. Thank you, Derek. This hotel is lucky to have him looking after guests.

The bathroom in my room was really small, more of a design flaw than a problem with the whole hotel. Otherwise, everything was good: it was clean, the water was hot, and the TV worked well. Staff were very friendly and helpful, and having a bar and restaurant on site made it easy to grab a drink or a quick bite. For business around Norwich, the location is ideal. A grocery store, Walmart, plenty of places to eat, fuel, and other shops are all within two minutes. I had a great experience and will stay again.
