It’s hard for me to leave the Highlander Motel. After staying just under 60 days through a VA program while I explored other housing options, I felt like part of the family. The place seems to be run by a family who share shifts and stay on top of whatever comes up. A young couple who work there were especially thoughtful, right down to small details. He always greeted me with a smile, and his wife acknowledged me with one every day. My room was spacious and modern, with a comfortable bed, working TV, and a shower with great hot water and pressure. I always had clean towels, which matters to me. The peaceful stretch of MacArthur Blvd felt nice, and I walked to local shops and laundry facilities without any issues. You can see the hills above Oakland and SF, including the Temple on Temple Hill, and the views at night are amazing. It’s a simple, quiet place to settle in. If I need a room again or can recommend a hotel to someone, I’ll say the Highlander Motel.

The rooms were clean, neat, and well priced, and the housekeeper was lovely, attentive, and easy to talk to. Everyone on staff was friendly and made us feel welcome, especially since we were visiting from overseas. We could walk around the neighborhood and use the laundromat nearby. We'd happily stay here again next time.

Everything was clean and smelled nice. The rooms have no carpet, just attractive faux wood flooring, and the workers were friendly and polite.

When I visit Oakland and my family doesn't have space, I stay here. The room suits me perfectly, it's clean, the bed is comfortable, and I can park close by. It has everything I need and feels like the right place for me. I can call from Chicago and they'll remember me and make a reservation. The people who run it make me feel at home. I love this place.

I came away impressed. The place was clean inside and out, the rooms were immaculate, and the shower was nice. The bed was really comfortable, and there's a huge TV and mini fridge. No complaints from me, I'd recommend it.
