Washington Inn

There was barely anyone around. I spent two full days there and saw only one employee, which made the place feel like an abandoned haunted house. The surrounding streets were dirty and felt unsafe, and the bars on some of the windows made me feel even less secure. The room was grimy too. There were fecal stains on my bedspread, and the shower had no showerhead. Water shot out of a single outlet like a full force garden hose. The downstairs public restrooms had rust and another gel-like substance I couldn't identify. A lot of the amenities listed online weren't there. The bar and lounge was abandoned, there was no restaurant, and breakfast meant 16 wrapped pastries and hot coffee. No decaf, water, or juice, and the public water dispenser was empty. The phones and electrical setup were very outdated, with old extension cords that didn't seem safe. The one small, slow elevator holds two people and leaves little space for luggage. Some windows were barred, while nails kept others from opening too far. My view was a dark, narrow U-shaped section of the hotel, all concrete. This hotel is a dump.

We needed an affordable, convenient place after a concert at the arena, and this worked well. A little before midnight, the walk from BART was quick and felt very safe. The staff were especially helpful, pleasant, and down to earth. It's a very basic hotel. The room was small, with the sink in the room rather than the bathroom, but everything was clean and the beds and pillows were comfortable. Breakfast was simple too, with yogurt, coffee, tea, wrapped pastries, and a few other things.

Everyone working there was laid back, funny, and easy to talk to, which made for a friendly atmosphere. It's in a great location and had lots of character. For the price, especially in the city, this was a great value and exceeded what I expected. Apparently there's a comedy night downstairs on Saturday. Thanks for a great stay!

It's a pretty hotel, which makes it a shame that the people running it are liars. The website had me expecting amenities that weren't there. I went down in the morning for the free continental breakfast, only to be told there was no breakfast. Check-in was at 3 pm, but when I arrived at 6:30 my room still wasn't ready. After another half hour, I got downgraded. Of the two TVs, only one worked, and even that one barely did. Its remote had just volume and power buttons.
