Surfcrest Resort

The beach is gorgeous and often nearly empty. Usually there were just a few groups far apart, and sometimes I walked out there without seeing anyone at all. Getting there means crossing a wide field of grassy dunes, where you can turn around and see untouched nature in every direction, without a building in sight. There are also beautiful maintained paths through the forest and down to an overlook of the winding river. For activities, there’s a playground, basketball hoops, a large dog park by the river, kayaks, paddle boats, and a big shared fire pit. Staff seem to light it at night, so it’s ready when you walk over.

We stayed just one night because our seven-year-old wanted to swim and play in the water. In the week before our visit, our daughter had been told several times that the pool and hot tub were working, but neither was.

We loved the clean, spacious rooms and the great balcony view, and overall had a really good experience. The kids had a playground, we used the kayaks, and there was a fire outside the office where people could socialize and make s’mores. The disappointing parts were that both the pool and hot tub were closed despite being listed online as open, and ants kept coming out of several outlets and spreading through the room.

We’re already planning another trip with the family. The place exceeded what we expected, with cute rooms, friendly people, activities for all ages, and a spot right on the beach. Fantastic for a family stay!
