The Sands Resort

The room was clean and basic, and the bed was OK. I could leave the windows open and hear the shore in the distance, but there was no balcony. I was in a second-floor business room advertised with an “ocean view,” and there wasn’t one. Maybe the third floor is different, but I can’t say. The bigger frustration was the lack of outlets: two in the room and one in the bathroom, plus an old, cheap extension cord with only two usable slots. Traveling alone, I managed to charge my laptop and phone, but a partner would have meant taking turns. There’s no hair dryer, the pool was ice cold, and the mismatched table and chairs weren’t comfortable for eating or typing. The room could use more light, too. I’d also suggest automatic shutoff coffee pots, since mine was on when I arrived at 9 pm.

Bobby, Heather, and Sharon went out of their way to make our stay enjoyable, and the staff are great. My family and I come every year, and we love it. This year our room was completely new, and it was huge, clean, and comfortable. I don’t know what place the people writing negative reviews are staying at, but we’ll be back whenever we can. Love it!

The staff were helpful and nice, and I can see that the place still has potential. But it needs work, especially for what they charge per night. We booked last minute for Memorial Day and this was the only place available. The website photos made the “resort” look nice, but it’s nowhere near a resort. The wood is badly damaged in places, the floors creak, and the halls smelled strongly of mold. Our room was clean when we arrived, but very dated and not well maintained. The sheets hadn’t been changed, and the chairs had some questionable stains. Yuck.

We could bring our lab, and there’s a pleasant picnic spot for grilling. The pool was clean, and you can use either the indoor or outdoor one. Breakfast was mostly cold cereal, probably fine for most kids. Our renovated room had a nice look, though it was a little dated and nothing fancy. The price matched what we got. The main drawback was the noise. At times, it sounded like the neighbors were right in our room.
