Super 8 Olive Branch

The room looked clean at first, but then we found a used condom, which made us question the cleanliness of the whole room and feel uneasy. We asked to change rooms, but the staff couldn't do that. They said they'd bring fresh sheets, but after waiting an hour with none arriving, we decided to leave for somewhere more comfortable. The place had an awful musty smell when we arrived.

The room had holes in the walls and wasn't what I expected. The whole hotel smelled like an ashtray, the pool was freezing and smelled horrible, and the hot tub felt maybe 85 degrees. The breakfast was just cold cereal and yogurt, and I saw random people sitting in the breakfast area at all hours, day and night. At check-in, the guy at the desk gave me attitude and dirty looks, apparently because my wife had booked the room and he said she had to be there. She books rooms for me all the time when I travel, and this has never been an issue. We booked the Super 8 for six days because it was the only hotel with rooms available. It's okay for a quick few hours of sleep, but for more than one night, you'd be better off somewhere else.

I stayed a whole week while back in town for a funeral, after moving to Illinois. I used to live here. Management was great: I needed good internet for work, and the manager said he'd move me closer to the office if I had trouble. My room was missing a coffee pot, but they brought a brand new one in its box within 15 minutes. Housekeeping were polite and brought clean towels, toilet paper, coffee, and garbage bags daily. I didn't have them clean the room during my stay. When the bathroom sink had a hot water problem, someone was at my room within 10 minutes and fixed it, the valve hadn't been turned all the way on. The hot tub could've been a little hotter, but it was still relaxing. It was nice for the price, and I'll stay again next time I'm in town.

The lobby at this Super 8 looked newly updated, and the front desk guy got me a non-smoking room, so I expected a familiar, comfortable stay. Instead, the hall smelled strongly of smoke, and room 123 had a bad mildew or mold smell. It also needed a better cleaning: there was hair in the sink and the floor was dirty, though the beds were made nicely. I wasn't given the Wi-Fi information, and since I arrived so late, I didn't feel like going back out to ask. I got up by 8 because breakfast ended at 9, but there was barely anything left: one muffin, two yogurts, a couple of granola bars, and sausage biscuits that needed heating and should have been refrigerated. I wouldn't call that breakfast. I wasn't impressed and wouldn't return. I can see why this place has such low ratings. The Super 8 in rock port Missouri is still the best one I've stayed at.
