Hyatt Place Kansas City/Overland Park/Metcalf

Breakfast had enough choices to vary things from day to day, though the service could’ve been more courteous and the selection could’ve been better. It was understandably closed on the snow day, but I thought the MOD could have done more to help guests that morning. We stayed several days over Thanksgiving. Yash at the front desk was consistently good, and the housekeeping crew, including Marcela (?) did a flawless job. That’s often where lodging falls short. I’d recommend staying here if you’re visiting the area, and expect a very good experience overall.

Our 24th wedding anniversary trip was spoiled by a really upsetting incident. In the morning, right after I showered and wrapped a towel around myself, housekeeping opened our room door without knocking. She saw my husband in his underwear, apologized in Spanish, then opened the door again, this time wide, turning her head toward the sink and seeing him unclothed and me beside him in a towel. We reported it to the front desk and were told we’d at least get some points, but nothing came of it. This was completely unacceptable, and I won’t stay at Hyatt again. The bathroom was also very small, and the shower had such low water flow that it took much longer to wash.

I’ve stayed here several times, and the rooms have always been well kept and very clean. The gym is good enough, with a few treadmills, a Peloton, an elliptical, and free weights. I also like that you can actually control the HVAC.

Good location and decent rooms, but the service was terrible. I’m a Hyatt Globalist who spends 80+ nights a year on business travel, and by February 12 I already had 23 qualifying nights. Even though I requested daily housekeeping at check-in and confirmed with the front desk that the request was recorded, my room got no housekeeping for two days in a row. When I told the desk, they said housekeeping had gone for the day and there was nothing they could do. No points, no drink coupon, nothing. They handed me towels, linens, and a trash bag and told me to handle it myself. When I asked if I could leave my rotting dinner leftovers in the hall, they said I couldn’t and should keep it in the room. Guess where I left it? (see photos) I won’t use this Hyatt for future work trips and would strongly advise other business travelers to avoid this poorly managed Hyatt Place. If zero stars were an option, that’s what I’d give it.
