La Quinta Inn & Suites Overland Park

The hallways were a mess, each with its own bad smell. Wall plug-in air fresheners seemed to make things worse. Our room was mostly okay, but we found a used, dirty hairbrush behind the mattress and reported it to the front desk. The woman there didn’t apologize or offer to clean the room or move us. She just said they were full and our price was set, which made it sound like a discount was out of the question too. My sister and brother-in-law had a room that smelled like wet dog at first, but they were moved to another one. Overall, it was a terrible experience. I’d never recommend this hotel.

The first room they gave me was humid, musty, and smelled like mold. There was even standing water on the fridge. I asked to switch, and the next room had just been remodeled, but smelled like glue and, worse, cigarette smoke. I’d driven nine hours and it was already 10 at night. Exhausted, I slept in my car with my dog. They said a manager would call the next day, but nobody did. I’m fine with the upgrades as long as the room is clean, and these weren’t. A very disappointing stay at a Laquinta. Apparently they’re all independently managed. I wouldn’t recommend it.

The building feels run down and could use renovation, and it was missing some amenities. Still, the rooms were a good size for the price, the beds were comfortable, and there was plenty of parking. It was clean and quiet, with a great breakfast buffet and fantastic staff. The food was perfect, and when we wanted heavier blankets, staff quickly brought us more. We were very satisfied.

The staff were friendly and helpful, and our room was clean and decent, with only subtle wear. But the hallways were too dim and a little creepy. One evening we parked by the entrance nearest our room and found it led into a completely dark hallway under renovation, with no route through to the room corridors. There should be some signs or the entrance should be closed after hours. It’s not a bad place, but I’d wait until the renovations are done before staying or coming back.
