Super 8 by Wyndham Oxford (Alabama)

The sheets and bedspread looked disgusting under the black light I brought, and the next room they moved me to was just as bad. They offered another room, but I wasn't going to let my wife or me lie in what looked like someone else's bodily fluids. I booked through Priceline, and check-in was a mess from the beginning. You had to talk to someone on a monitor, and I could barely understand them; they also couldn't print a working key card. It took 45 minutes to get into a room. The staff said a refund had to come from Priceline, but Priceline refused, and I couldn't reach a person there. I lost my money. If you're booking a hotel around here, beware of trying to save money with a cheap place. I regret it, and I won't use Priceline again.

The room had burn holes in the comforter, black mold on the ceiling and lamp, and a filthy bathroom floor covered in mold that someone had tried to paint over. A roach came out of the vent while I was showering, and the water never got hot. Even check-in was odd, handled through a computer while the attendant wasn't on site. We left after two minutes without checking out at the office, yet got a message thanking us for our stay. It made me wonder whether there were cameras in the room. This is the worst hotel we've ever stayed in. Find somewhere else, it's not worth it.

Breakfast was just cold muffins, Yoplait, and sugary orange juice, and the remote kiosk felt a little strange. We stayed one night in room 246 on our way home from Thanksgiving with family. It's the most run-down hotel I've stayed in for years. There was a cockroach in the bathtub, along with a spider web, and the toilet took several tries to flush. The walls had noticeable dark stains. The beds were stiff, but clean. There was still old Covid-19 signage, which I thought was crazy.

The rooms themselves are great, but trash from the previous guest was left in mine. Staff check-in happens by video on a computer, and other staff don't greet or speak to you. Breakfast runs from 6 to 9 a.m., though it was all gone by 8. The pool and gym have been closed since Covid-19, according to the sign. Still, it's a safe, convenient place to stay in an emergency, with several stores right across the street.
