The room was the biggest letdown, especially for the price. We paid a little over $500 including tax for one night on Valentine's Day, and room #24 didn't feel worth that. It was advertised as a “partial ocean view,” though the ocean was barely a speck. The mountain views were nice, at least. The suite-style space had two rooms, with a not very comfortable fold-out sofa and a desk in the smaller one. The refrigerator there was so loud we had to unplug it, and the TV was in that room instead of the bedroom. The bathroom sat between the rooms, so you had to pass through it to get to either one. Since our room was at the top of the stairs, hallway noise came right through the thin walls. The old metal bed frame creaked when I even rolled over, and the mattress felt soft and springy. They should replace that fridge and add a TV to the bedroom. The breakfast also didn't live up to a true bed and breakfast. It was store-bought bagels and pastries, plus a very good yogurt parfait, but not a full breakfast. Coffee could be better too. They had only artificial Coffee-mate creamer, no half-and-half, and refined white sugar instead of natural cane sugar. Those small touches could improve what they offer. Still, Centrella Hotel itself was lovely and charming, if a little worn, and the service was warm and inviting. Maybe other rooms are better. We enjoyed the stay overall, but I'm not sure I'd return.

The room had an old-fashioned charm but was still comfortable by modern standards, and the breakfast yogurt parfait each day was delicious. We were a short walk from a beach with stunning views, and it took about 20 minutes along the scenic shore to reach Cannery Row and the Monterey Bay Aquarium, which was my main reason for coming. The price seemed reasonable, though I visited in the off-season in late December. I'd absolutely recommend it for a Monterey or Pacific Grove visit.

A cute choice for a weekend away, and I'd recommend giving Centrella Hotel a try. It's on the historic registry, with helpful, courteous staff and shops, restaurants, and services within walking distance. Parking is available on site, including accessible spaces and a wheelchair-friendly ramp and doors, though the lot is a bit tight. Continental breakfast is included.

My aunt and I were on a road trip and got a third-floor room here. The moment we walked in, something felt strange. The old, slightly dirty decor didn't help. We asked to move, and the next room felt “better,” but still off. We decided not to stay after all. That odd feeling stuck around for about an hour after we left. Then we looked into it and… confirmed. This hotel is haunted!!!

We liked the location, the staff were generally nice to talk with, and the complimentary evening glass of wine was a nice touch. Our garden room was okay, though outdated, and the online photos made it look nicer. The bathroom, Juliet door, and separate side entrance were things we liked. The chairs just outside the room felt awkward, though. I wasn't sure if they were meant for our room, and other guests sat in them; they were close enough to open our door if it was unlocked. The end of our honeymoon stay at Centrella was especially frustrating. When we arrived, we asked about a late checkout because of a tour and were told we could stay until noon at no charge. On checkout day, while we were on the tour, we got a call saying we'd overstayed and would be charged a fee. The front desk employee couldn't help because the charge is automatic when the room is prepaid. Management had no email or contact number, so we were told to call back when they were on site, which wouldn't be until that weekend for us. There are plenty of other places in the area, and I don't think you need to settle for this one.
