Hampton Inn & Suites Birmingham-Pelham (I-65)

The room looked beautiful, and the staff were friendly. Check-in and checkout were easy, and breakfast was great. Getting into the hotel was a little odd, though that wasn’t their fault. The bed was hard enough that I pulled back the sheet to see if I was lying on plywood.

Brooke at the front desk was welcoming and nice, but the room was in rough shape. The shower’s sliding door rolls all the way open and won’t stay shut, so the floor gets wet. The other half won’t move at all, apparently caulked in a couple of spots. Bathroom and outside tiles are missing grout and pop when you walk over them. The AC cover had fallen off, and the couch was disgusting, covered in stains. The place feels as run down as an old motel.

For the price, the quality is hard to beat. It’s a basic Hampton Inn with ordinary hotel rooms, nothing fancy, but clean and comfortable. Spencer was extremely friendly and helpful. I’d recommend it to anyone passing through or staying several nights.

The room was okay and looked recently updated, though I found several silverfish. I usually stay at Hampton Inns when I travel, but the move to streaming-only TV may end that. During football weekend, finding games on live TV was difficult and spotty. ABC and FOX channels weren’t available, and I couldn’t download the YOUTUBE TV APP to the television, so I had to watch some college football on my iPad. That’s unacceptable at $270 a night. I also asked for late checkout, but left at the usual 11am checkout time and was charged a $40 late-checkout fee. I’m canceling a reservation for later this week and switching hotel chains. Hampton Inns have lost my business.
