We never really got to stay here. After checking in at 2:20 pm, I saw I’d been charged twice, then was told my reserved king room would be a two-queen room “at no extra charge.” I’m Diamond level and don’t pay for upgrades, and this wasn’t one. Three hours later, I still hadn’t been in the room. At the desk I asked why the Wyndham app didn’t show me checked in. The owners were folding what looked like four loads of personal laundry in the lobby, underwear included. Another guest asked about Wi-Fi and the owner said it wasn’t working, which doesn’t square with the high-speed internet sign outside. LJ said the account showed I still owed money despite the two charges, and suggested I call customer care. We drove around to the room and turned back before going in. There was junk metal and debris piled on the second-floor walkway, and an abandoned car with temporary tags and four flat tires parked outside. Inside was worse: holes in the walls, a bathroom door that looked kicked in, cigarette burns in the tub, floors sticky underfoot, a strong musty smell like wet gym socks, and easily a dozen roaches. I’ve stayed in plenty of dumps in my 52 years, but this one got the fastest exit. We returned the keys after being in the room less than five minutes. Customer Care found us a room across the street at La Quinta, which cost another $178 on top of the $64.40 initially charged and the $84.20 charged at check-in at this HoJo. I’ve contacted Wyndham customer care and plan to contact Georgia regulatory agencies on Monday. I’d sleep in my car before staying here.

For a one-night stop, this was a really nice surprise. The rooms were clean and looked after, and the parking lot was brightly lit, so it felt safe. The staff were friendly and helpful, and booking in person made sense since the price matched the lowest online offer. I’d stay again when we head back from Florida. Thanks!

The second room was so hot it took from 10 pm until 4 am for the air conditioning to cool it enough that we needed a sheet, and there wasn’t even a blanket. The right side of the bed was broken. We’d asked to move because the first room had stained sheets, duct tape over holes in the carpet, a very loud AC unit with only half of it working, and a broken meth pipe stuck inside the bathroom light. The fan motor kept roaring every five minutes or so, loud enough that we couldn’t think. The front desk woman came to collect the first key and was extremely rude. When we tried to explain what was wrong, she just kept yelling, “ok, ok, you have a new room.” We’ve stayed in plenty of hotels, but this was easily the worst. We contacted Wyndham because we’re members, and they said it could take at least 2-3 weeks to hear back about the stay.

The pool was the reason we chose this place so the girls could swim, but it was out of service and nobody told us before we arrived. We also found mold on the headboard and a broken lamp. The beds in our first room felt like bare box springs, and there was no top lock. With three daughters in an unfamiliar area, that really didn’t feel okay. They did move us to another room and were nice about it. There were roaches, stained sheets, and a bed as hard as a rock. The lobby wasn’t open in time for breakfast. They also charged our account three weeks before we got there. The worst part was the invasion of privacy: they came into the room without knocking to take the curtains, then about two hours later walked in and started vacuuming while we were still there. My daughter was in the bathroom, and they nearly opened that door too, without knocking. I wouldn’t recommend this hotel to anyone. I have no idea how it got the name “Award winning hotel.”
