Hampton Inn Phoenix-Airport North

The staff were professional and courteous, and the rooms were clean. Breakfast was good too, though the rates felt a little high. That’s the only reason I didn’t give it five stars. We’ll be back. It’s a great spot for a downtown game or concert. The railway station is within walking distance, along with other hotels in the area, and the train goes straight to the heart of downtown. For events downtown, you can ride the railway for free. It’s also less than a 10 minute drive to and from the airport.

I was stranded in Phoenix by Air Traffic Control, and this gave me somewhere to sleep for the night. The check-in desk agent around 9:30 pm was excellent, and the room was large and well equipped. I liked the step-in shower, but it’s a tired property. The room carpet was worn and stained, as were the couch and easy chair, and the trim paint was chipped. Both A/C units in the suite were noisy, and there was road noise too. Breakfast was okay, but the only fruit was wrapped whole apples. The coffee was terrible. My first breakfast cup was lukewarm. A server brought a fresh pot, which was hot but tasted several days old. The in-room coffee maker also made weak, pretty awful coffee. Given what it cost me, I’ll probably avoid this place in the future.

My room had a faulty television and an alarm clock that ran 30 minutes fast, with no obvious way to set it. I can’t recommend this hotel and wouldn’t return. I came to Phoenix to help a friend with a serious medical issue. I told reception I might need to extend my stay by a few days. The staff weren’t very sympathetic or particularly friendly. When I asked to stay two more nights, nobody told me the rate had changed. I found out from a credit card notification on my phone, and the new rate was nearly double. They said there was a special event. The Holiday Inn Express across the street was nicer, cleaner, friendlier, had a better breakfast, and apparently didn’t know about any event. It charged less per night than Hampton Inn had before the event. I should have booked there from day one.

The hotel was nice, and I loved the breakfast, coffee, and hot cacao. The only problem was the pool, which was FREEZING. My kids tried swimming, but holy, it felt like the water was 10 degrees.
