Hampton Inn & Suites Pittsburgh Airport South–Settlers Ridge

The traffic pattern around the hotel is confusing, complicated, and congested. Someone should take a serious look at what happens in that area. That's my one drawback, and it's outside the Hampton's control. The facility was clean and maintained apart from expected wear and tear. My room was spacious and comfortably furnished. The team were friendly, courteous, and helpful, especially the young woman in the breakfast area. I expect I'll return on future visits.

The stay and location were good, but the pillows felt like cotton balls. I woke up to find that my phone hadn't charged even though it was plugged in, and only one USB outlet worked. When we went downstairs to catch the shuttle, the driver asked if we'd scheduled it. We hadn't, because at check-in I was told to “just come down” and was shown the shuttle sign. We were given the wrong information.

The location is convenient, close to the highway and shopping, and the updated rooms and common areas plus free parking give the hotel some potential. But we won't stay here again because cleanliness was a major problem. We stayed on 8/7 and 8/8. After sitting on one bed, we noticed a couple of long black hairs on the bedding. We checked both queen beds and found at least 20 hairs altogether. The app had told us the room was ready around 12:15 PM, so it seemed housekeeping either missed it or hadn't changed the bedding between guests. I messaged the front desk through the Hilton Honors App and got no reply. When I went down, there were at least five people in line and just one person at the desk. We came back later from Downtown and reported the hairs. No one really acknowledged the problem or apologized. They gave us a cart of fresh bedding, and we had to change it ourselves. While doing that, we noticed the fridge wasn't very clean and the carpet didn't look freshly swept. In the bathroom, there was mold at the bottom of both sides of the shower curtain, fingernails under the sink that hadn't been swept up, and a hand towel with a large brown stain. The staff the next day were much friendlier and more accommodating, which was nice. We didn't have the free breakfast either morning, so I can't comment on it. As a Hilton Honors Silver Member, I found all of this unacceptable for a Hilton property.

I won't return with so many hotel options nearby. The bedding was off-putting, with a very grungy-looking, discolored comforter under the duvet cover. On the third floor facing the highway, road noise was really bad, and the pillows were lumpy and uncomfortable. When I went downstairs for water, four groups of guests were waiting to check themselves in. They said they'd been waiting more than 20 minutes for a front desk attendant who was nowhere to be found.
