The hotel refunded the room, but my belongings were worth more than $800, so that compensation is nowhere near enough. The general manager accepted that the hotel made the mistake, yet I was told resolving it could take weeks or longer, if it gets resolved at all. I booked WoodSpring Suites at 6801 K Avenue for February 7th-9th, expecting only a clean, safe room and working AC, not luxury. On February 8th I went out briefly to buy things for the Super Bowl and a birthday celebration. When I came back, everything I owned was gone. At first I thought I’d been robbed, so I contacted the police and front desk. I later learned the hotel system had mistakenly marked my room vacant, and housekeeping came in and threw away all my possessions. This ruined what should have been a special day. I’ve stayed in hotels for years and never experienced anything like it. I’m posting this to seek accountability and full compensation, and to warn others. The hotel has acknowledged its mistake and that it was completely unacceptable. No guest should have their property discarded because of a hotel error. I hope management fixes this and prevents it happening to anyone else. I strongly advise avoiding this location. If you’re set on a WoodSpring Suites, the McKinney location gave me far better service and experience.
The hotel is cheaply built, and the walls are so thin that I could hear people talking and walking beside, below, and above me. I lost a night’s sleep, and when the hotel wouldn’t do anything about the noise, we had to move. I called the 800 number, and they gave me a free two-night stay at any of their other hotels. If you sleep heavily, you might be fine here. Otherwise, save your money and stay somewhere else.
The elevator was out, but that wasn’t disclosed until check-in, when it was too late to cancel or change the reservation. I’m pregnant and was put on the third floor. A nice man at check-in said he’d move me to the first floor, and my fiancé carried my suitcase up the stairs. Before he left after two days, he called to ask about the move. The rude woman said they couldn’t help that the elevator was broken and that moving me wasn’t possible. The kitchen drawers weren’t attached, the curtains had brown stains, and there was a razor blade and lots of hair visible in the sink drain, where the water wasn’t draining. There were unsavory people living there, including one man who confronts and threatens people outside. The bed felt like an actual air mattress, the sheets and cover were cheap and thin, and the room smelled like fish. The floors were also slippery and wet from humidity every day. I wouldn’t stay again. I wish I hadn’t wasted my money here.
We won’t return after this one-night stay. Check-in was a nightmare: if the reservation was paid with a digital card, you couldn’t check in without paying yourself unless you got a card authorization form from the person who booked it. When the elevator opened on our floor, there was an overwhelming smell of cannabis mixed with a scent like Bed Bath and Dollar Tree body spray. In the room, cabinets were broken, the TV remote was taped and broken, and the walls were scuffed with smeared stuff on them. The bathroom had obvious water damage over the shower, a disgusting wall beside it, and a used, dried bar of soap in the shower’s top corner. The photos don’t show how bad the wall really looked. The floor was sticky and dirty. The front desk closes at 9, with no staff there afterward. Though quiet times were posted, there was stomping and banging until about midnight, and we could hear tollway traffic too. We just had to put up with it. The hotel description said there was continental breakfast, but that was a lie.
The woman at the front desk was super nice and professional, and we loved her. The location by my doctor was also convenient. But the elevator has been broken for a long time, the breaker in our room tripped several times while we charged three phones with the lamp on, and our key card stopped working three times, so we kept having to get new ones. I know I won’t stay here again.
