The waterpark was nice, but there were no towels there or at the front desk. We booked three rooms for my daughter’s birthday, nearly $1,000 altogether, and the rooms were nasty. Dust was everywhere, the bedding had stains and hair on it when we checked in, the shampoo wasn’t filled so there was only enough for one use, and food from the previous guest was still in the fridge. This was my third visit, and probably my last. For what they charge, it wasn’t worth it.

The staff were really nice and helpful, but reception had no clear dress code, or one so loose that anyone could stand there and look like they worked at the hotel. Breakfast food was decent, though the kitchen couldn’t keep eggs and sausages stocked steadily. One person came out with maybe eight sausage patties while at least eight people and kids were waiting at the counter. We paid an exorbitant amount for a King suite over an October long weekend because it was one of the few rooms left. I believe that’s their highest tier, but the room looked nothing like the spiffy online photos. It wasn’t especially clean, the walls and windows were dirty, and the furnishings were very dated. There was dust on the living room TV stand, a rock hard loveseat, and a tiny washroom like you’d find in any room. The bed felt old and springy, the pillows were worn and yellowed inside without double cases, and the very old, loud A/C-heater blew straight at the bed while I tried to sleep. The TV worked, but was dated, and several bulbs gave off cold white light that didn’t make the room feel warm. I don’t think the King suite should cost more than about $150 a night. With customers paying so much, the place should be updated, rooms cleaned top to bottom, and the dining room kept well stocked.

We travel as a group of families every month to relax, and we’ve never experienced a place this bad. The staff were rude, never smiled, and seemed not to care. It wasn’t clean, and the breakfast was dull, with no variety or effort to replace items that had run out. The entertainment areas are open to outsiders, so there’s no privacy. This isn’t somewhere I’d recommend to families or anyone looking for a relaxing stay. It doesn’t deserve even one star.

We’ll probably be back as we travel through several times a year now that our daughter and her fiancé will be living in VT during winters for the foreseeable future. On our first trip we stayed across the street at the Days Inn and drove over to eat at the PBCO Brewery, which we really liked. One odd complaint: Spectrum cable in Plattsburgh has the most difficult channel selection. There are regular numbered channels, but you have to remember a two-digit code, a dash, and another number. There’s a lot to enjoy here. The rooms are nice, and the in-house food at PBCO (Plattsburgh brewing company) was delicious with a short wait. Beer, wine, and cider are self-serve after you get a purchase card, with 20 to 30 choices on tap. There’s also currently a Perkins in the building. The small indoor waterpark is there too, but the game rooms were the big draw for me. Two small ones are by the bar, and I had to go to the first floor to get a prepaid game card. I was sent to the basement first, and spent ten minutes amazed by all of it and taking pictures. There were bumper cars and tons of games, most of which I’d never seen. The basement putt putt course was the best part, nine holes with fantastic painted walls that come alive under black lights. The stairway to the first floor had clever painted walls and black lighting too, and I was mesmerized. Then the MAIN game room blew me away with even more games I’d never seen. I took another ten minutes of pictures before stopping at the counter for a game card. My dinner had arrived at the bar and was cooling fast after my extended trip, but I still talked with the clerk about how cool it all was. She said they planned to take over the Perkins to expand the already impressive collection. Crazy, but seriously cool beans! I gave the room and service a 4 because the rooms and halls could’ve been cleaner. There were bits of flotsam and jetsam on both carpets. The bathroom was clean enough, but the inside bottom of the toilet was quite stained, though it seemed easy to clean with the right products. There was dust in the wall and tub cracks where it should have been caulked or grouted, and a few paint spatters on the tile grout came off in seconds with my little pocket knife. The grand foyer needed a sweep and mop, even a spot clean would have helped. I know I may be picky, but when we splurge on a room, I expect more attention to detail. Breakfast was okay and the food was good, especially the eggs. They were real fried eggs reheated, not the usual powdered scrambled kind. There were two waffle batters, which I figured out from their different colors. The darker one had cinnamon, but a sign or label would’ve been helpful. Tables needed cleaning, and the chairs were worn and needed cleaning too. I didn’t see the breakfast hostess until we were leaving. We watched a delivery person bring in four very full dollies of supplies, while the hostess was sitting at another table having breakfast with a fruit or coworker. I only realized she worked there when she went to the back and came out with a new tray of eggs. Nice for her! I gave the overall stay a 5 because the good outweighed the not so good. Maybe I was nitpicking, and maybe staffing was a little short since it was Monday night. Turns out the front desk clerk was also the breakfast hostess, haha.
