La Quinta Inn & Suites Savannah Airport-Pooler

The room was great, the bed was super comfy, and the location was amazing. I also love that it's pet-friendly. There were problems with the facilities, though. The hot tub was full but didn't work, and the side entrances were out of order. At the pool, our room key wouldn't open the door to get back in, so we had to bang on it until someone let us in.

The room was spacious, and the location worked well for a stop in the middle of a road trip. But it got very hot and humid overnight. Some of the overnight front desk staff weren't friendly when we asked for towels. The room mirror and coffee machine were dirty, and on one of our stays there was no soap.

It's convenient and clean, and a good stop on a long trip, especially if you have pets. The room we got with two queen beds was clean enough, so I don't have complaints about that. But they charged over $180 for a two-star hotel and acted like it. At the rate currently listed on their site, that room is $109 before tax. My total was $184 with taxes and fees, and for $16 short of $200, the stay felt like a rip-off. The free breakfast was scant. The orange juice was so watered down it was unpalatable, and the cream cheese had been sitting out for hours without refrigeration. The only edible items were things the staff hadn't prepared, namely the fruit and cups of brand-name yogurt. The value fell laughably short of what I paid. If you stay here, come prepared and don't let them overcharge you. I wish I could get back some of the extra $70 I was swindled out of. What a waste.

At checkout, they told me I was all set. I asked whether they'd email my receipt, and only then found out they had no email on file. I nearly left without a receipt for my employer's reimbursement. The hotel needs serious oversight. Check-in and room cleanliness tracking could be managed better by my toddler. I tried to check in at 2:15, though check-in is at 3. They said it would cost $30 before 2:45 and that housekeeping hadn't yet told them which rooms were ready. I waited until 2:45, checked in, and found the room door open with its latch engaged. The room was unclean, with pillows and other things everywhere, and housekeeping was nowhere to be seen. At the front desk, I was told, “that's why I told you they hadn't come down yet.” No apology. It was exactly 3:00 when they said they'd ask. When the employee returned, she said housekeeping would clean it in 15 minutes. I finally got an apology, followed straight away by, “we had a full house last night, so they tryin.” The front desk had an unfriendly manner and didn't seem focused on service. The hallways were filthy, and the ice machine area wasn't kept up. The “fitness center” wasn't one either: it had three pieces of equipment, none plugged in, and one was out of order.
