Flagstone Motel

For $200 a night, I expected a better room. The bed was comfortable, and the shower had good pressure, though the temperature kept changing, maybe because someone else was using water at the same time. There was a microwave, coffee machine, fridge, and TV. They didn’t have a hair dryer in the room, but lent us one. The toilet wobbled, the sink barely ran, and I could see dust on the wall. The location is convenient for restaurants, coffee shops, and the pier, and the outside was clean. We didn’t like our first room, but the very nice woman at the desk helped us switch to one we preferred. The manager offered to reimburse us if we found somewhere else, but we stayed. It gave us a place to sleep, but I wouldn’t want to repeat the experience.

I picked this motel for its affordable rate and proximity to Olympic National Park. Parking and check-in went fine, and the room was simple but decent. The lack of a refrigerator was a real disappointment. I’d wanted to chill water bottles for my hike the next day. There was no AC either, just a fan by the window, partly blocked by the curtain, so I couldn’t control the temperature. Outside noise came through easily, from squawking seagulls to people talking as they walked past the door. They sounded like they were right in the room.

The room was clean, nicely appointed, smelled good, and looked out at the mountains. They’d also left extra fans for us to use. The staff handled a possible room change really thoughtfully. They called earlier that day because our preferred room might not be available, explained the options, offered a discount for a different room, and gave us time to decide. Then they got our original room ready after all and let us know promptly, so we weren’t left worrying during our vacation. The waterfront is very close, and the price was much more reasonable than nearby places. We’ll be back.

There were ants coming out of the walls and getting into all our things, including our clothes and unopened snacks. The man at the front desk was great and very helpful, but that was awful.
