The lounge gathering with our family ended up being the part that left us most uncomfortable. We’d told the hostess/concierge that relatives staying at the Carlton location would join us, and she didn’t object then. Around 5 p.m., while we were having wine, she came back to say non-guests, or “the public,” couldn’t use the space. She said she wouldn’t make us leave that time, but the exchange made us feel unwelcome during what was meant to be a celebration. My fiancé and I had booked the Danforth location shortly after getting engaged. He’d spent a lot of time choosing a place he thought would feel special for our family, while the rest of them stayed at Carlton. We arrived early just to see the property, with no expectation of getting into our room before check-in. The front desk interaction felt chilly, even though the staff member did offer restaurant suggestions. She seemed annoyed we’d come early, and we felt like a bother. When we returned to check in, the tour was casual and didn’t have the warmth we’d hoped for. We understand that hotels have rules for their amenities, but the way this was handled made it feel like we were causing trouble just by spending time with family. For the price and reputation, we expected more hospitality. The experience overshadowed the occasion, and we left disappointed.

We loved the common rooms, with games, puzzles, and a book by the fire, and the hotel’s cozy atmosphere made our honeymoon feel just right. We loved everything about the place. It’s easily our favorite hotel so far, and we’d stay anywhere else if we come back!

The rooms at Blind Tiger are so comfortable, especially the huge, cozy beds, and the wood burning fireplace was a lovely extra. It’s close to so many of my favorite restaurants. Portland was another great visit, and I always look forward to staying at Blind Tiger.

Maggie did a great job with breakfast and helping us get settled. We didn’t eat breakfast there because Portland has too many good options, though it looked good. Our group appreciated the snacks, hot water, and seltzers, and we loved the indoor fireplace. The bathroom was spacious, and there was plenty of room for all of us. We booked a king suite with a pull out king bed, which was comfortable and nothing like a traditional pull out couch. The location is great, near some really good restaurants, and parking behind the hotel was simple since they have their own lot. We’d definitely stay again in Portland.

I booked this for my mom while she was visiting me, since it’s near my apartment, and she loved it. It’s at the start of the West End, an easy short walk from the Old Port and the Casco Bay Bridge over to South Portland. The inn had a rustic, charming feel, and her room was clean and well stocked. Staff were friendly, and getting into the building was straightforward and secure. There’s a complimentary breakfast, plus drinks and snacks available during the stay. A lovely choice for a real Portland, Maine experience.
