The room itself had a good-sized TV, though the cable selection was very basic, and the WiFi worked well. There was a fridge and microwave, the shower had good pressure and warm water, and the room was a decent size. The phones didn’t work, so bring a cell. The online rate is good, but don’t assume you’ll get that price by booking in person. I tried once and was quoted considerably more, despite being told it would cost the same. I found the neighborhood sketchy, and I’m not sure it’s a good choice for women traveling alone. Usually, a very surly, bitter man was at reception during the day, and he seemed to enjoy making guests uncomfortable. He made it feel like he was doing me a favor by taking my money, to the point that I put off simple requests until he was off duty. There also seemed to be building code issues, such as disconnected smoke alarms and electrical outlets that weren’t properly placed. For men on a budget, it may work if you can put up with the rude behavior, book online, and overlook those issues. I mostly stayed in my room, locked the door, and avoided interacting with other guests.

I’ve stayed here a few times before without a problem, and the manager and his wife have always been kind. This visit was completely different. We reported several big bugs in our room, and the young man at the front desk said the maid would deal with them tomorrow. We were checking out tomorrow, so that didn’t help us tonight. When I asked if he could come up and remove them, he said, “That’s not my job.” If dealing with guests isn’t for him, a hotel may not be the right workplace. People expect to sleep without a bunch of bugs in their room. I won’t be back.

We stay here A LOT! It might not be the most wholesome or “SFW” hotel, but the staff are incredibly patient and meet people where they are, even when the clientele can be difficult and sometimes vicious. That’s made the Portland Inn pretty dear to me. Or maybe I’ve just gotten used to the trailer park shenanigans and ALLEGEDLY illegal whoo haw. In my head, it all plays out like a comfy Sunday afternoon. I’m sure we’ll never know fo’ sho’! 😋🤫

This place wasn’t the cleanest, but I’ve stayed in worse, and at least there were no bugs. We had heat, a shower, a fridge, a microwave, privacy, and a place indoors for a couple of days that we could afford. There was no deposit. The staff were mostly unfriendly, rude, nosy, and very ill-mannered, with no decency toward a family going through a traumatic time. We’d lost everything in a fire and had no renters insurance. I’m a single mom of three, managing alone, and haven’t been able to work for three years. We’d been living in motels and shelters, and couldn’t afford anything fancier. Our dog had to stay in the car because the place wasn’t pet friendly. One staff member called the police and made up a complete lie, for no apparent reason. I’m still flabbergasted and confused about why anyone would do that. It caused my family a lot of harm while we were already dealing with so much. The older gentleman who worked from early morning until afternoon was the only one who showed basic kindness to a mother in such a hard situation. I wish people would mind their own business and stop making things up or being cruel. Kindness goes a long way for someone like me.

Felt at home for a little while. This place is great and secure, even if it might look shady and sketchy. Might move next door to the next motel lolol. We all have that and then some.
