Portland Value Inn

The only reason I’d give this even one star is that the AC worked surprisingly well and the mini fridge got really cold. Ants were all over, though, so we couldn’t keep food in the room. The beds had cigarette burns, the room smelled musty and like it had been smoked in repeatedly despite the owners’ warnings to smoke outside, and the floors and bedframes felt sticky. Each bed had just one very thin sheet, the TV didn’t work, and there was only one towel for the two of us. The exit gate is shut from 11pm to 7am, so you can’t come or go then. Worst hotel I’ve ever stayed in, and the price doesn’t make up for it.

I only booked this cheap place for a layover, but left early and will have to seek a refund through my credit card company. It was a ridiculous stay. Babies were left crying for hours, kids ran around, and adults had screaming matches. The room next door had children crying, with a heavy marijuana smell in the air. I complained, thinking they’d sort it out or move me, but was basically told the motel also housed families without homes as a shelter. The manager lets entire families crowd into rooms with a double bed and cook dinner in there. How am I supposed to complain about that? Never again.

We ended up here for a week because of the winter storm. The queen bed and bunk bed made for a lovely room, and the office staff were very friendly and ready to help with whatever we needed. The only issue was the shower water turning cold after about five minutes.

The other guests kept coming over to bother me for free stuff, and the staff constantly gave me a hard time about my visitors. I was overcharged, and the maid went through my personal belongings. They also took my comforter to wash and didn’t return it for four days. Awful.
