Red Lion Hotel Portland Airport

There was a booking problem when we arrived, and the inside looked old and dated. We spotted a big wad of pink gum at the top of the stairs. In our first room, the window and shower were broken, so we moved across the hall. At least that shower worked, but the fan was missing, leaving a huge dirty hole with cobwebs, and the only hand soap was lavender, which I’m allergic to. The bed was uncomfortable, the brown bedspread felt strangely greasy, and the pillows were only half pillows. The desk chair was falling apart too. Parking wasn’t great, and the ticket machine made getting in and out a pain.

The shuttle and its driver were great, and check-in was quick. I found the room fairly clean, though the bathroom floor corners clearly needed attention. There was a small fridge and a desk. The location is convenient, and the $15 pet fee seemed reasonable, but the area felt a bit sketchy. Our door frame was broken, as if someone had tried to kick it in, and the lock didn’t work properly. With that security problem, they shouldn’t have rented us the room.

The price was cheap, and the quality showed. Our room was clean, but the shower holders were broken, the toilet leaked, and the key cards didn’t work. We had to ask for extra towels because we kept using them to mop up the floor. Most of the front desk staff were nice. We stayed several nights and never saw the room cleaned during the day, even when we left before 9 a.m. There was coffee but no breakfast, and most amenities were closed “due to covid” in 2026. This is a place to sleep, not somewhere to spend the day.

The front desk women were really nice and helpful, but the website needs updating. It said breakfast was served daily, and we booked partly because we didn’t want to stop somewhere else before heading home. When we asked, though, they told us there was no breakfast. That was a real disappointment. Being so close to the airport is a big plus. The rooms could use some upgrades: the TV glitched every five minutes or so, the tub looked filthy, and the windows rattled whenever a plane went by, so they could use better seals.
