Be aware of the long, steep staircases. If you have limited mobility, you’ll want to find somewhere more accessible. Otherwise, this was a lovely place to stay. It’s in a quiet neighborhood, within reach of downtown, the east side, and Brown, and you can see the Statehouse from the front of the inn. Our huge room looked out over other Victorian homes, and the fireplace warmed it in minutes even on the coldest winter nights. There’s free parking next to the building, with overflow spaces a few blocks away. The breakfast was one of the best I’ve had anywhere: a full continental spread plus two cooked dishes each day, one sweet and one savory. We had strawberry pancakes and eggs Benedict one day, then blueberry-cheesecake stuffed French Toast and ham quiche another time. Coffee, tea, and hot chocolate are available free around the clock. Soft drinks and wine cost extra.

We had cookies with chocolate chips waiting in our room, which was a lovely surprise. I have a big sweet tooth, so I was especially happy about that. The woman who checked us in was lovely, and we enjoyed breakfast in the cozy dining room. There was a continental buffet with cereal, pastries, and yogurt, plus two hot choices. We only stayed one night while in the city for a wedding, and I wish we’d had longer. As someone who makes travel content and studied hospitality management, I’m pretty demanding about hotels and inns, but Christopher Dodge House lived up to my expectations. We booked a prime room, which was huge and lovely, with nice decor and good cleanliness. It’s also close to plenty of city attractions. Thanks for a great stay! The fireplace was a lovely extra, and the shops and restaurants were conveniently close. The folks at Christopher Dodge House were kind and accommodating, and the rooms were larger and nicer than an average Hilton while still being reasonably priced. My husband and I were in Providence overnight for a family event and were very glad we chose this place. If we come back to Providence, I know where we’ll stay :)

If you want to be within walking distance of downtown Providence activities and restaurants, this is a great option. The Dodge House is a first-rate BnB, with cozy rooms and delicious breakfasts. We were impressed by the excellent communication before arrival and the warm welcome. We’ve rarely had service this good. Hospitality the way it should be.
