Serena Inn & Suites of Rapid City

I booked on short notice during Sturgis weekend and had no trouble getting a room. I’d been wary after reading earlier reviews, but the gentleman with colored hair was really nice and respectful and made check-in easy. My room was on the second floor, so carrying things upstairs was a bit of a struggle. Otherwise the room was clean and did the job for what I paid. I didn’t notice any odd smells like other reviewers mentioned, and it was quiet all night. A good experience overall.

One star is generous. There were blood stains on a pillowcase, makeup marks on the bathroom hand towel, dead bugs on the floor, and a strong musty smell. We paid for two nights but left after the first because the room was so poor and dirty, then moved to a much nicer hotel nearby. The corporate hotel manager, as he bragged about being, charged us for an extra night after we’d checked out. We reached him multiple times about the charge, but he kept avoiding our calls. Save yourself the hassle and choose somewhere else. There are plenty of hotels nearby, and the extra $10-$20 is well worth it.

The front desk women were very kind and tried to help, but dealing with the owner was awful. Our first room had no working air conditioning, and the replacement room was the same. When we asked about moving again, he called us unreasonable, wouldn't hear us out, and told us to leave. He also refused to refund the night without air conditioning. He was rude, disrespectful, and deeply unkind. I usually try to sort things out with staff instead of posting a review, but I can't recommend this hotel. The owner has other nearby properties too, and I'd avoid those as well.

We paid almost $1,000 for a week in a dirty hotel, with barely working A/C, moldy breakfast, and rude staff. I wouldn't stay again. In the first room, the bathroom had intimate body hair, the sheets were stained and dirty, and there was no fridge or microwave despite the online listing. When I raised it at the desk, I got attitude. Staff offered a room with a fridge and microwave, but its A/C didn't work, and I said I didn't want a room without air conditioning. The next room had heavily stained, unvacuumed carpets and sticky bathroom flooring. Breakfast was poor, as continental breakfasts often are, but the moldy biscuits were the worst part. And when we needed help, no one seemed to be at the desk.
